Why no PCC in 30 Super Carry ?
tap tap ..
is this thing on ?
Hey, S&W PR guy/gal..
I know you are out there.. I'm new to the forum
You have to save me.
This weekend I almost plonked down some beans for a Hi-Point carbine in 30 Super Carry..
A Hi-Point.. I feel so dirty even thinking about it..
And you there at S&W central with such nice products.. the FPC in 9mm ( which I have one of)..
Or that new S&W Response, also in 9mm.. (yes I'm eyeing it too)..
Please I beg you, save me and others from the path of shame..

Because 30 Super Carry is short lived caliber that's already starting to die off. There is not really a lot of demand for it, and there never will be. It's the solution and answer to a problem that never existed. 99.99% of consumers are happy with 9mm and PCC that use mags from 9mm handguns or iconic PPCs they already own (Glock, M&P 2.0, MP5, CZ Scorpions).

Not down with the 30 SC. I would be down with a 45ACP or even a 40SW. Maybe even a 10/40 combo. I think a 45 would be a blast to shoot. I love the 9FPC. If they do the Response in a 45 I would adding to my collection in a heartbeat.

No shame in buying a Hi Point when it's the only game in town. I bought a 995 9mm years ago when the alternatives (Ruger, Beretta, AR9) were all stupid money. Yes, the trigger is iffy and the proprietary, low capacity mags are a curse, but it works and sends 124gr +P downrange with quite a crack and is very accurate.

Why no PCC in 30 Super Carry ?
My personal view is 'why would there be ?' Flash in the pan cartridge that (again, my opinion) will not endure.
Want a true, useful PCC caliber not commonly* found ?
10mm* would be my choice (and Jeff Cooper's as I recall). Again, just my opinion.
[* HighPoint notwithstanding for the same reasons as the OP]

No PCCs in 38 Super or 10MM Auto which are more established rounds. One in those calibers that takes M1911 magazines makes a lot of sense. Try finding a lever action in 41 Magnum. There was a small run of Marlin 1894s' Henry lists them.

I just don't think 30SC has enough of a following to show that a PCC would sell yet. I'd like to see a .45acp or 10mm which have a sales volume and track record to show they would sell but for some reason nobody is interested in building them.

I too believe it's a answer to a nonexistent problem. What is the life expectancy of the cartridge? Plus with the cost of ammunition, 9mm. is cheap in comparison.
Tank, expect to be shunned for buying a jam-o-matic.

If you want a carbine in .30 caliber, here is a design and cartridge that will live forever. Even today it's a good choice for defense, small game and predators. Better yet, find a WWII surplus carbine in good shape as a shooter and a piece of history. By the way, my Winchester has never jammed or failed to fire.

The points about expected market justifying the expense of design & development, plus tooling changes and lost production for stuff that's selling now are valid.
There's another reason too: operating pressure. The 9 mm has a long history of blow back operated firearms. The 30 SC has a pressure max almost 20K psi higher, so we're operating in all new territory. OK, someone's doing it now, but how well their product is going to hold up has to be established. Yes, HK did a 10 mm version of the MP5, but that's a locked breech weapon, not blow back.
Auto Ordnance does new M1 carbines. Proven design locked breech, relatively easy to find both mags and ammo. Pretty much same results even is not new and kewl.

10mm or 45acp for a PCC is the ideal one outside of a 9mm. 10mm being a better choice.

Eau contraire! The .30 Super Carry is most definitely an answer to the problem of where can I get brass for my Pistolet automatique modèle 1935A in 7.65 French Longue.
