just ran my 1,000th round through my 642 tonight. i am surprised how well the action smoothed out. i also dry fired it 500 times with snap caps. it has the zit on the side, but the lock has not caused any problems. it also has never been locked. my 642 has the power port and i had to get comfortable with the blast directed upward in front of my line of vision. i like this gun! accuracy is excellent and 100 percent reliable. s&w hit a home run with this little pocket gem.

Thanks for the post, I'm glad to hear someone has but an airweight to the test. Now, after 1K through the gun maybe we should ask how YOU are holding up!

I just recently got a 642. I am not surprised at 1000 rounds. Make sure you report back at 2000 and 3000 rounds:)

I've been making an effort to shoot my 638 more since that's what I carry and it's amazing how smooth it's become. I think I'm at about 500 rounds now. It is quite the little gem...I'm hoping to get a 642 in a couple of months to keep it company :)

I have two S&W642's. One has only 400 rounds and the other has 635 rounds. I purchased the last one in April 2010 and that is the one I have shot the most. I really like the little "J" frames, I just have not mastered it to my satisfaction yet. Can't wait to reach the 1000 and 2000 milestones.

Good shooting.

My favorite 642 has about 2000 (+/-?) rounds downrange. I lost count a long time ago. I have another that I've put 1000 to 1500 through, but I bought it used and it looked like it was rode hard and put up wet before being sold to me. One has was built with the IL and one was not. I don't worry to much about the IL as I promptly remove the lock when I get them.
