So I'd like to find an affordable (to me) 2nd Gen. Just saw one on Gunbroken that went for over $1100. No box, no papers, no nuttin but a gun and magazine.
What am I missing about this model? I'm just looking for a nice beat-up shooter grade; this one is maybe a bit better, but still.....

Seems high to me without the box, etc. but it is one of the 803 test pistols they made in 1985.

Sometimes they draw a lot of interest if the seller does not appear to know what they have.

I think S&W submitted a 459 to the US Military for testing to replace the 1911. There were a couple of test where the decision was not to buy a replacement for the 1911. If this 459 was the same model submitted for US Army trials I could see it selling at a higher price. The grips and finish don’t really look like a commercial 459 to me.

Maybe someone more knowledgable will chime in.

A while back bought some different 459s reported to State Dept Contract Overruns.
Talked to Roy Jenks and he confirmed that.
Later Lamented can’t believe I only talked to him one time and we were discussing Autos!
We is Revolver Guys!
We supposed to be discussing Revolvers!
