One of the shows I went to earlier in the year one dealer who seems to have several 34’s at each show had 2 very clean no box 34-1 2” guns with prices of $1300 / $1400 each. I traded for one at another table and wound up with $700 in it but it’s no where close to new. It’s a good shooter but no museum piece.
Another local show last year a mint in the box went for $1,600. Prices on very nice 34-1 4” blue go $1,100/1,200 without a box. Nickel, you don’t see many but I’d expect a premium. I have a mint nickel 40 I bought about 8 years ago for $700 and that’s the last nickel I’ve seen locally at any price.
63 ‘s go for higher. I found a mechanically sound one that someone tried to polish but quit half way. I picked it up for about what I paid 8 years earlier for the nickel 34. This is a no dash 63 early production. I took scotchbright pads and restored the finish. Fortunately the previous owner hadn’t ruined the markings on it. It had the numbered grips and all functioned perfectly. It look great now and I feel lucky to have found it.
Seems like, at least in my area, that the 6 shot J frames especially 2” but 4” also are bring more money than the K frames by a pretty good margin. The dealer that had the 2-2” 34’s said he used to have 8-10 nice 4” and a few 6 shot 63’s and at this show he only had one 4” 34 and no 64’s. He and other dealers have told me they’re now hard to find.
