1 month wait already for a shield...ugh!

Yep D&L is where I got my last two from. My suggestion to the folks that are going to the LGS and waiting is.....stop. Check online. I've gotten three (3 non-MA 9mm) and the total wait time combined was less than a week. It will require checking several sites but it beats months and months while everyone else is enjoying theirs.

Just registered to give my input on this.

I got signed up on the waiting list for a Shield 9mm in October for the ONLY local big box store that was getting them at all (Sportsmans Warehouse) after impact guns recommended them (impact is local to me). Months went on & nothing from them, but I would call on occasion & they would confirm that I was looking for a ghost.

Then I put 100 down on a shield 9mm at a small LGS & a week later I had my Shield 9mm.. In March I Sold it & went back to the same LGS & put 100 down on a shield .40 & Picked it up last week. Overall about 5 weeks total between 2 guns.. Best part is that right after I picked up my 2nd Shield Sportsmans called me & said that my Shield 9mm was in.. Needless to say I declined.

Moral of the story, Try different LGS's if your having a problem getting one. I know putting money down discourages alot of people from getting onto a waiting list, but if you know thats what you want then there should be no hesitation.

I've been waiting for over 5 months for an M&P 40C. I bought it at a LEO supply store but the price is over $100 cheaper. That's not counting the 3rd magazine & Trijicon night sights. Could be an additional $150 with those. Just for the heck of it I asked how long to get a Shield. I was told up to a year. They both can be found at local gun stores but at a much higher price & the 40Cs only come with 2 mags & no night sights. I'm number 7 on the list. I can wait.

You guys need to understand how S&W makes their guns. Because they are not a custom shop, they build to large batch orders. So, when your local place, even if it's a big box store, puts it on "order" for you, you have to wait until that store gets their big order in. It's not like they order them one at a time.

So, another store will have been already waiting 6 months for their order of guns to come in. When you place your "order" the other store happens to get theirs in. Thus, it seems like one place has a way to get them when another doesn't. This isn't true. It's just being in the right place at the right time.

Now, if you were to order a true custom gun, like an Ed Brown or Les Baer, when they say X months, it will be close because they make guns one at a time.

I put my name on a list two weeks ago at a LGS and was sixth in line. Got the call today and went and picked it up. $425 plus tax. Not bad. Shield 9 mm..

I ordered and paid in full for 2, M&P40 Shields last June 1, 2012. I was at the top of my LGS list for these guns. The first one came in at Thanksgiving, the second came in 1-31-2013. Both guns were well worth the wait. I gave my son one for his birthday 3 months late, but he said the belated present is worth gold to him.

Oh I forgot, My LGS knocked $50 off each gun because I prepaid for them, $399.99 each

That would have been nice.. I would have gladly pre-pair to knock a few bucks off, but given how long the list was at the LGS I was getting mine from I am fairly certain thats not anything they would do. When I picked up the .40 they actually had 2x shield 9mm more then they had people on the list for it & within 6 hours sold them both.

I already had a M & P 9 and walked into my local gun shop and asked about the Shield - told me one was coming in - WOW!! - I immediately put some "interest" money down and now have it as my regular CCW - I guess sometimes it's how lucky you are being in the right place at the right time - an hour later I probably would be still inquiring - by the way, I love this precision instrument!!

I ordered/paid for mine from Atlantic Tactical in December on the leo pricing and just got it last Monday!

I put my name down in a waitlist back in December and completely forgot all about it and gave up on trying to find one. Then I got a call last Thursday and told me they had a shield for me but could only hold it until the 30th, I left work and huffed it down to the LGS (6 mins away) to make sure I took it home that day! It took 5 months but I only paid $409 for it. Instead of the $450 + ship + FFL fees online.

Local forum had one come up in the classifieds with about 50 rounds through it at 11:00 pm. Wifey closed the deal at 11:03:

About 8 months ago my LGS was advertising Shield 40's on the radio. I immediately drove up and picked one up, they had about 30. 3 weeks ago I went back up and bought me an M&P 40 FS, no Shields in sight. Guess also got lucky. :D
