I'm new to the forum and I have a quick question. I hope this is the correct place to ask. I have the below snub 10-5 and have had it for a long time (do not know the year). Seemes like a beefy little revolver and I've never had any issue with it. Always shot 158grn target ammo for the range but carry the BB158 gr swchp+P for carry (not too often because NG315 is my everyday carry piece), but it does go along for the ride at least once a week. The BB shoots POA and seems like a potent round. I always shoot 18 rounds or so of the BB at the end of my range sessions to make sure I'm proficient with it. Range officer at the indoor range made a comment about it not being the best choice for an older gun? Like I've said I've never had a problem with it but it got me thinking (concerned)? Is this load ok for occasional use/practice/carry? Again, new guy to the forum and any advise would be appreciated from you gentlemen (or ladies for that matter). Thanks in advance, Smitty

I believe the most commonly held opinion is that any steel K frame 38 with a Model Number stamped on it is fine with +P loads.

Poster samwood is correct. Don't know what the range guy is talking about. If he is questioning your ammo, most people finish off their range sessions with 2-3 gunloads of their carry ammo. Just like you are doing. Modern +P ammo is much milder than it was in the 1970s. Any gun will eventually show wear. When it does, there are gunsmiths. So don't worry. If he is questioning your use of a wheelgun, that's just his .02. Enjoy your 10-5! Hope this helps. VL

Carry the same rig except have Hogue Bantum grips, saving my pennies for some pretty wood like yours. Isn't this about the sweetest shooter ever? Practice with WWB FMJ bulk. carry with +P JHP. S&W K-frame manual says all after 1959 fine with +P ammo.

Can't tell without a s/n but the SCSW says 10-5 should date from 1962-1977. Old is relative... but I wouldn't worry about shooting stout loads in that one. I would stay away from any magnumized 38 special loads though.

squeakydad and hotrod150,

Thanks for the replies. It is indeed a very easy gun to shoot well. My NG315 has a good trigger, but the 10-5 feels like a custom job after all these years...incredibly smooth.
