Before everyone falls prey to the Counting-Your-Chickens-Before-They-Hatch Syndrome and starts spending money they don't have yet, note that as of right now it's only being proposed to send citizens a thousand bucks.

"Mnuchin announced that the administration is looking at sending checks directly to American households that are hurting – possibly within the next two weeks."

"Looking at" and "possibly" are the key words there.

It's more than a little hard for me to believe that our government...you know, that entity that everyone's always whining about because of its delays in doing just about anything...can print, address, mail, and deliver x-millions of checks to American households within a two-week time frame. I'll believe it when I see it.

Show me the money!

"Do I see some new Smith & Wesson purchases on the horizon?"

Oh yeah! I've already thinned the heard but I have since discovered how badly I NEED the 8-shot Double Action S&W .22lr revolver. I B keepin' my eyes peeled for the next gun show. But until then I'll be a watchin' the mailbox! ;-)

$1,000 is a whole lot better than nothing, but not so much if you lose your job and benefits.

You're absolutely right, but yeah, better than nothing...but looking at it realistically, $1000 doesn't go all that far today. And will it be tax-free? Seriously...I can go through $1000 just paying normal monthly expenses...sometimes more, depending on the month or the season.

Another thing: $1000 to "every American"? Really? What about all the homeless people, or people who really have no fixed abode, no real place of residence, no "household". Uncle Sam gonna do a search for all those folks, I wonder?

Would I take the money? Well...sure. Of course. I'm not stupid, no matter what some people around here think. But I won't deny I catch a slight whiff of something other than altruism at work behind this idea.

Legal citizen?

Well at a time like this you need to have a little compassion for the illegals. they are also people, kids and women are among them. i am not saying they should also be given 1000$ but some care would be good.

Well, I believe that the blanket gift to EVERYone is a bit of a waste. A lot of people don't need it. Some people are actually able to exploit current events and make more money.

I believe the gov should come of with a no-red-tape way for those that NEED it to apply for it and to quickly get the money in to the hands that qualify. I'm talking about a no frills sho' nuff streamlined system. That way they could give out more to each qualified person.

Might be a bit of a problem getting that started but better all around once it got rolling.
