I'll believe it when I see it.
The tax payment and stimulus check should cross in the mail. It's about a wash.![]()
I really don't need it either.
I heard someone on the radio yesterday saying that there are a few asking Trump not to send everyone $1000 but rather step up unemployment so it can get money to the people who can't work due to the virus immediately rather than the usual 4-6+ weeks.
I'd rather see the people directly affected get help rather than just passing out money to everyone.
However, if I do see the $1000 I have decided to invest it wisely.
One need to remember, for every action there is a reaction,
some how we will have to repay this.
I'll invest in increasing my ammo stockpile.![]()

This kind of post is likely why the mods generally don't allow political threads, I'd guess. It's disappointing to see it here.Folks need to let the hate go, it's very transparent.
Does "everyone" include retirees on ss?
Probably not.
Well, I believe that the blanket gift to EVERYone is a bit of a waste. A lot of people don't need it. Some people are actually able to exploit current events and make more money.
I believe the gov should come of with a no-red-tape way for those that NEED it to apply for it and to quickly get the money in to the hands that qualify. I'm talking about a no frills sho' nuff streamlined system. That way they could give out more to each qualified person.
Might be a bit of a problem getting that started but better all around once it got rolling.
I also heard the $75k limit. Really? If someone who made $75K needs money, that's their own fault.
I have my retirement and Social Security. I get by just fine and don't need a government handout.
I think its the folks in the less than $35-40K range that really need the money.
I understand that the economy is suffering and does need some stimulation. But I see no point in wasting millions of dollars on people who don't need it. I've sent e-mails to all my congress critters suggesting a much lower income level to receive the handout.
You're absolutely right, but yeah, better than nothing...but looking at it realistically, $1000 doesn't go all that far today. And will it be tax-free? Seriously...I can go through $1000 just paying normal monthly expenses...sometimes more, depending on the month or the season.
Another thing: $1000 to "every American"? Really? What about all the homeless people, or people who really have no fixed abode, no real place of residence, no "household". Uncle Sam gonna do a search for all those folks, I wonder?
Would I take the money? Well...sure. Of course. I'm not stupid, no matter what some people around here think. But I won't deny I catch a slight whiff of something other than altruism at work behind this idea.
