Which type of grip did the 1006 come with, straight or round or both? My 1006 came with Hogues and I thought I might order a set of factory plastics before they are no longer available.

Thanks,

Mine are straight, but I’ve seen some with the curved grip. There are plenty of both available.

I'm thinking round i had one i bought back in the 90's when they first came out i remember smith and wesson sent me a new set due to a recall or something i'll look and see if i still have them ???

So, if they came with either type, I guess I can pick the one I like best.

Do you guys prefer straight or curved? Reasoning?

Thanks,

Rosewood

Use whichever style grip best fits your hand, not mine or anyone else's.

That really isn't my point here. I don't really plan on installing the grip. I plan to keep the Hogues on it. I just wanted a factory grip so I could make it original if I ever choose, but wanted others opinions on it.

And without one to try out in my hand, how would I know? Local stores don't stock them.

Mine came with round.

However I changed them out for these Brazilian Rosewood grips that were on display (on a 4506) in the Hogue booth at SHOT in Dallas, I forget how many years ago

If the price is right, why not pick up one of each to stash away for later ?

I actually have spares of all three styles of synthetic grips on hand for the 10xx family. That is the standard straight and curved grips along with the palm swell grips that came on the FBI 1076s

I've now bought three 1006's and one had the straight grip. The second came with Hogues which I find too large. I have another one on the way also with the straight grip. I've had curved on other pistols and I prefer the straight.

I'd say order a straight and you could always order the curved one if you desire.

Then I would buy the straight back strap type, I've not seen a 1006 with the curved back strap.

Both of my 1006s have the straight factory grip.

I have a 645 with the factory curved grip which I am not all that fond of.

I really should buy a set of Rosewood ones. :)

Gonna have to dig out my 1076 factory grip and see what it was. Been years since I have looked at it. Probably changed it out within a few weeks of buying the 1076 20+ years ago.

I bought my 1006 used but it came with the straight back grip. I assume that was how it was shipped as the catalogs from the early 1990's showed them that way.

However after years of going back and forth between flat and arched mainspring housings on my 1911 pattern pistols I finally decided that when point shooting the gun shot lower with the flat housings so I settled on arched. So I ordered and installed the curved grip for my 1006. Here's a photo.

When the 1000 series was new, all the gun rag pictures showed them (and the 40s) with straight grips.

But I couldn't afford them them so I don't know what S&W put in the box.

I just now bought a set of factory new straight grips for my 4566 that has Hogues (which are a bit thick for me). These are the same frame size as 1006/1066 series. They were $28 shipped from a large gun-parts supplier on ebay.

I really like Brazilian Rosewood

Unfortunately, Hogue no longer uses Brazilian Rosewood. They offer a laminated grip that they call Rosewood.

In 1992 Brazilian Rosewood became one of those forbidden products, we can thank Bill Clinton for agreeing to that one just like we can thank Barack Hussein Obama for cutting us off from African Elephant Ivory

Back decades ago at SHOT in Dallas, Hogue had those pictured grips on a 4506 on a rotating platform. These were the 1st set of 3rd gen grips Hogue showed. I had a great conversation about them with Guy Hogue and told him I wanted to take them home and I was not taking NO for an answer.

He told me to stop by on the last day as the booths were being torn down. He took the gun off the turntable, removed the grips and gave them to me.

I was ecstatic, the wood had beautiful grain. The only other pistol that I own wearing Brazilian Rosewood is one of my older P220s.

The late GREAT Abe Rich made one of my Pool Cues from Brazilian Rosewood. It is among my most prized possessions

My 1006 was delivered with straight grips. After I owned the pistol for a few months, there was a S&W recall for the grips, and a new grip was shipped to me. The replacement grip was shipped on 26 September, 1990. The package included the grip, a steel pin to use in removing the original grip, and inspection slip and a set of instructions to remove and replace the grip. The replacement grip is also straight. IIC, the reason for the recall was grips were cracking along the backstrap.
