1006 Factory Grips?

Well... kind of?

The grips were recalled because they did NOT get the mix of delrin or zytel correct. The plastic was prone to shatter if dropped.

If a 3rd Gen grip shatters, the mainspring has nothing to anchor it, so the hammer has zero strength or ability. The pistol cannot discharge a round if the grip has shattered.

That was the reason for the recall. It was probably extremely embarrassing for S&W at the time.

I went ahead and ordered the straight back from Midway for like $20. Was all they had in stock. Saw the round ones come up later, but I plan on keeping Hogues on it anyway. Just wanted the factory ones in case I ever decide to sell it.

I bought the 4013TSW about 4 years ago and took off the factory grip to clean and install Hogues. Thing broke into 2 pieces. As easy as it broke, I can see it breaking if dropped. Found the post about the recall and saw this was the older grip pre-recall (no dimple). Contacted S&W and they sent me a new set for the 4013TSW. Still in box. :)
