1006 mags

Dparker, your collection sounds to be neatly complete but do you own the two crazy scarce extra-capacity factory original magazines?

Those are a damn tough grab and as for expensive...? They cost gun money.

...does anyone know the history of the 2 versions of yellow followers?

.

The follower with the drop nose forward edge is the earliest style as seen in the prototype 10mm magazine below that was patterned after the 45ACP mag follower of the time.

This 1989 Handguns Magazine article's picture is black & white but I'd venture to say that follower's color is likely orange, as was the early 45s.

I have seen pics of the extra capacity 10mm mags but I do not own any! Yes I would purchase a couple of them IF I could find them! Btw...I checked in my safe and the black follower mags were my 45 mags!

Cheers!!!

Also looking for 1006 magazines

I'm looking to pick up another mag or two. Can you ping me if you have one or two to part with?

I agree on the orange follower being in the prototype's mags.

Just adding for the info...In the July '89 issue of Shooting Times, a pic of the 1006 prototype shows a modified "all steel" .45 magazine with an added rubber pad, which is also mentioned in a paragraph.

One other critical weakness on these mags is the plastic baseplates are becoming old and brittle. Drop the mag onto a hard surface and it is likely to fly apart like a two dollar suitcase.

Replacement baseplates are perennially out of stock

The second picture you linked that shows the rubber attached to the metal floorplate just screams "745" out loud.

Yes, 745 mags cross with 645 mags and will all fit in all the single stack 3rd Gen .45 guns however it was only the 745, and only for a short stretch where the magazines came with metal floorplate AND rubber bumper possibly glued on.

It seems that this short-lived factory original magazine variant is rarely discussed.

Wow, what's the backstory on your 845?

I cannot possibly imagine that the PC sent it to Lew Horton with a 745 magazine.

Oh no, I wasn't trying to imply it came that way from the factory.

When I found the 845 it didn't have the factory box & had only one mag, the bumper mag, with it & I got them to drop the price a little for those reasons. :p

A few months later, when they were doing their end-of-year inventory, they found the factory box with the papers, extra target spring & a Performance Center mag, hidden on a shelf in the back.

They were nice enough to search for my tele# & told me it was available to be reunited with its other half. :D

Here's "the rest of the story", as Paul Harvey would say, from 2013:
Found a 845 (45 Limited) and....

I have a friend that may be willing to sale me either a 11 round 10mm magazine or a 15 round 10mm magazine. He asked me to go back and look at the big auction site to see what the last ones sold for. I could not find any on the big auction site but I did find on this forum a comment dated 8/9/2016 that one was purchased off the big auction site for $435 for a 15 round.

What would a 15 round 10mm magazine go for these days?

Merry Christmas!

Cheers!!!

David, I cannot possibly imagine. For me to give any number would be RECKLESS and if helpful at all, it would be helpful to only one party.

I can say this. Both the 11 and 15 round magazines occupy this odd collector space of an item that has precious little intrinsic value (certainly, in MY opinion.) They are strange, look horrendous hanging from a pistol, they are far too rare to justify actual use, their tangible benefit is arguably quite low, they are crazy valuable because of crazy guys like us who love interesting and rare items associated with our passion.

If I somehow stumbled across one for cheap dough, I would snatch it up and absolutely look to make fat cash on flipping it. It would have to be some crazy buyer looking for esoteric items to want to pay big money for it. :D

Lastly, I actually know one lunatic guy who has one of the 11-rounders and he carries it for woods carry. That dude is a nutbar, but also one of my best buddies :D and I so I call him these names in hopes that he might read this post and chuckle.

This is one of those items that trades hands so rarely that whatever price you and your friend agree on, know that if you report it, you both have a fair hand in literally determining or at the least, swaying the market.

To that end, I do hope you get it and I hope that you report the price you agreed upon.

There's a member of the S&WCA that is the guru of all things 10mm . Her had a table at the 2022 symposium that entered on the FBI and the 1076 . He had all the different mags they made and he was really informative . If anyone could put a price on them , he would be the one . I'll look at past Journals and see if I can come up with a name .

Sevens , you're right , he is a nut bar . But I have to be nice , he offers me his castoff PC guns . And you couldn't ask for a better forum buddy .

If the person you're referring to is 'Dave from PA', he passed away in 2022.

'Dave from PA' was an exhibitor occasionally at the NE Ohio 'Bunch' get-togethers. He would bring in his FBI 1076s' and the 11 and 15 rd magazines.

just wanted to chime in on the mag situation, I picked up a 1086 a good few years ago [no box] and I can't remember if it had one or two mags, but I managed to buy one or two from Midway I think, I now have three, and some Wolf springs and new followers. put it in a nice Pelican case. A few scuffs on the grip and a shiny spot on the bottom of the trigger guard [ from a holster I guess ]. Thinking of either getting a new OEM grip or possibly the Houge rubber grip, maybe both lol. But recently I have been trying to find another mag or two. One on Ebay $185 One on Gunbroker $175. I will have to do with the three I have thank you very much. Great shooter by the way, and both my brother and his son in law are very envious. I am a big 10mm fan, with this one and a early Glock G20

I have three mags for my 1006, picked up the third one at a gun show several years ago. I'm about to list the 1006 on here for sale and trying to decide if I want to list it with three or two mags.

Be aware there are 3 variations of 10mm mags for the 10xx series - all interchange but earliest mags had yellow followers. Next were white followers, and finally white followers with AccuGlide markings on metal shell. The last are most desirable, but all will work and as was noted any mags for 10xx series are hard to find and expensive. And I believe the white followers are available and will interchange with yellow followers if for some reason you need to replace a follower.

I have two mags with yellow followers and one with a white follower, all work just fine.
