1006 questions

Thanks a lot for the translation on the Julian Date. I keep meaning to learn that, but I'm really not smart enough. Doesn't any one know in what sequence the TNT falls in?

Big times thank you for SEVENS, lot of god information there. Ok the truth is that I don't see Red or Green, its a disability and I'm very sensitive about it. It's hard going to my better half and asking her to tell me what color something is. So I cleaned them up carefully and asked her. They are yellow.

Any one know about the TNT prefix?

Houge grips

Have any of you guys tried Houge wooden grips on a 1006/4506, how did they fit, did the pin fit good, was the finish good. After I get the single action tuned in I might B-B-QUE this gun a little bit. I've been looking at pics of 1006's here and haven't seen any tricked out, is this a 1911 thing, forbidden to be done to a 3rd gen S&W?
The trigger thing? I don't know if it's nostalgia, or the fact that I've been messing with 1911's, but the way I remember it I thought my original 1006 had a lighter trigger in single action.
My original 1006 had the adjustable sights on it, I liked them, I thought they were brutally strong looking. When I bought this one I didn't want to get into a bidding war, so I got ahold of the seller and found out what he wanted and made the deal, I didn't hold out for adjustable sights.
Just out of curiosity can they be added to a 1006 that came with fixed sights without machining the slide???

There are adjustable sights made that will fit in the "Novak" rear dovetail of your slide.
They will not be the protected adjustable S&W original equipment sights but they are the sights that S&W provided when a customer wanted adjustable sights on the last of the 3rd gen pistols.
They also work with your original front sight so no replacement needed there.

Search LPA Sights.
Midway carried them.

Late to the party, but FWIW, I was issued a 1006 from early 1992 through mid 2006. They are indeed a tank.

Now then, the gent who commented that altering the sear release lever will allow cocked & locked carry is correct. HOWEVER, your better option would be to buy a spare and convert the spare. This is because it's a fitted part and your current lever is (hopefully) properly fitted already. Remember when current stocks of parts are gone, they're probably gone for good. The sear release lever is a wear part, a spare is a good idea.

The proper extractor springs are a nested pair, I've got the part numbers, but not right here. Extractors went through several revisions, they need to be hand fitted also, gauges are no longer available.

The white followers are the latest & greatest. Many of the alleged feeding malfunctions were operator error, not parts. S&W replaced all the mags for the VA State Police as a goodwill gesture, they offered us the "defective mags" at $5 each. We bought them all and only had one that was actually defective. Get extra mag springs too.

As for adding adjustable sights, it's not feasible to add the factory style sight. The dovetail for these sights is very wide and quite shallow. LPA makes an adjustable sight that fits the S&W dovetail. They will work with the existing front sight. Millett used to make adjustable sights for the third gen pistols but they are no longer available. I have a set for the large frame floating around somewhere. I'd probably sell the set if someone just had to have them.
