hello 3rd gen experts,

i might have an opportunity to purchase a 1006.

still waiting to get some details RE condition, extra mags, box, etc.

i like 3rd gens plus i enjoy shooting larger caliber rounds.

this would be for range use only.

however, i don't load 10mm and know it's an expensive factory round, so I probably won't shoot this a ton...just a few times a year.

if it ends up being in excellent condition at a sharp price, is this one of those better not let it get away from me opportunities or no big deal?

thanks in advance.

Good price and good condition, I would say don't let it go. Snatch it up. I've seen them on GB going for $750 and upwards to a grand. Word of caution; it may be difficult to find parts, so be sure there is nothing major needing replacement. You can find recoil springs, but the guide rod might be hard to find. I think mags, mag springs, and followers can be found fairly easily. A broken extractor, good luck.

The good news is that they are very well built and rarely need parts.

10mm ammo is not that bad price wise if you know where to look.
Underwood is hard hitting real 10mm and is priced well for example.
I want a 1006 myself to go with my 1066. LOVE the 10mm round and the. S&W's are the best shooting 10's I have handled so far. my 1st 10 was a Glock 29 but when I got the 1066 I never wanted to take it out and shoot it so i sold the Glock.
Grab it you won't regret it!!

For me it's a unique cartridge in a unque gun. Had to have one & finally did (1076). If it's a good deal, in good shape & you have the $$, go for it.

You said you "don't load 10mm". If you reload other calibers it should be a easy move to load for a new caliber. It's way more flexible & 40/10mm bullets are common. The brass is harder to find though. And 40/10mm dies seem to be back in-stock.

The 1006 is a terrific firearm. It's beefy construction handles the 10MM cartridge very well.

There are softer shooting 10MMs and there are more accurate 10MMs, but the 1006 hits a sweet spot between the two that most people like.

I have had my 1006 for roughly a quarter century new.

The 1006 is the one they made the most of in the 10xx series, I bought mine new in March 1990 and it has been a great pistol, just beware! "The 10mm is addictive!"

Those who seek all things pertaining to 10mm firearms and handloading for it, will want to visit the 10mmFirearms site...many enthusiast there, who share the passion. :)

There are even pull-downs of most all commercial loadings that are documented, this can help people understand what is being sold and what drives the performance levels.
