10mm Favorite powders ?

Longshot is my go to for the 10 mm. It has seemed to give the best results for me in my pistols. I worked up some loads and was able to do better then published results in current manuals. Three different pistols, and the only one that exhibited signs of excess pressure was a long slide G40. Both the compact G29, and full size G-20 showed zero signs of an over pressure loading.

Just to keep things simple I lowered charge weights so that all are the same. But still over what hogdon said was a max load! Plinking loads, not so hot, full bore loads are hot to trot.

Just sold my Glock 20 to buy the new SIG 320 XTEN. I'm just another one of those guys that hates the grip angle and trigger

Longshot just LOVES the 40 caliber and it's is currently available. Take note a lot of the powders mentioned are currently Unobtanium.

As for examples, from the Hodgdon Reloading center you can have a 180 grain bullet hitting 1245 fps. That will get some attention. It will also have some neighboring shooters asking if that big old stainless 610 is a 44 Magnum.

Then there is my personal favorite, a 40 caliber "Short & Weak" pushing a 165 grain Speer Gold Dot to a chronograph verified 1165 fps, a load that is definitely NOT weak.

last week my favorite reloading shop had an 8# jug of BE86. I REALLY had to restrain myself. very reasonable on a per pound price, especially with no shipping or haz-mat.

3N38 is currently available at Midway ... just saying. Do your homework, and you may take an interest in this one.

Thanks for all the input on favorite powders for the 10mm. What a great bunch of people on this site.

For you guys using AA#9, can you get a max load in a case? I typically use LS and BD but tried some #9 with 200gn XTPs and had to load just over one grain shy of max to get my required OAL.

AA9 and 800X

Those are my two exactly. Im working through my H800x and it will truly be a sad day when I throw the last charge of it.
For 180's and 200's these two are hard to beat. I guess BD would be the logical and popular alternative. Ive read Longshot is another great choice but for now, for me, A9 and 800x is it. And, about A9, I know all the manuals give charge weights up to 14+ grains for many 180gr bullets for 1250+ fps but my DW Silverback posts 1350+ with 180's with less, more than once too. Sure, my chrono may not agree with others but my numbers are what they are. Besides, Id need a much shorter bullet than a 180gr HST to be able to get 14, almost 15 or more grains in the 10mm case with the bullet.

Just opened a can of 800x to push 200gr. XTP in my Glock 40 and it a great powder if you can find it.
800X, AA 9, Longshot powders are my go to powders. Haven't found any Blue Dot at all but when I do I will get them.

Longshot works great in my 40 pushing 180's fairly close to my 10mm.

My load is 0.3 gr under max with a 200 gr bullet. I assume there is room for another 0.3 gr. Model 40 Glock 10mm.

My load of 11.8 Gr #9 under a 200 Gr coated SWC fits fine.
The 200 Gr XTP is a longer bullet? It's max load of #9 is 12.5 Gr so it may be an apples-n-oranges comparison.
Some manuals give the OK for compressed loads.

Hornady manual shows 13.2 grain max at 1.260", where Western says 12.5 at 1.250". Most I could stuff in a case was 12.1 grains at 1.260". If I used a fired case that was only neck sized I could get a couple tenths more. Not complaining as the velocity was higher than a with max charge of both Longshot and Bluedot.

Well, the Special may have to wait. I loaded up some Unique in mag cases, 7.5 grains of it, with some Stateline H&G copies @245gr and those were about the most fun my 29 has had in quite the while.

I didnt have the opportunity to get my chronograph out but the accuracy was outstanding, even for me. The most amazing part was that they were spot on with wherever I had the sights on the m29. Ill freely admit to not really being able to shoot a handgun worth a darn but this load made me into a regular JM. They all just was right in the bullseye forming about a 3" ragged hole dead center of the target. Total rounds fired, 48.

The feel of this storied and historic combination of components just had a sound, smell and feel like nothing else Ive tried. It just shot so easily. I dont know why I would try another load but I just loaded 50 more rounds at 7.5gr but also threw in 16 at 7gr and 16 at 8gr just to see if those can possibly shoot any better.

So, the 44Spl, my intent for even buying the Unique, may have to wait for a few more pounds to happen along or just be satisfied, and happily satisfied, with the HERCO and PowerPistol, with which it does just fine.

Ill try to have some numbers for this load in my 4" M29 and 5.5" Redhawk by this weekend.
