DO NOT ASK sign

I say the CO is on his way and you're going to be prosecuted.

Before I could answer the CO said no he's the plaintiff.
I have heard CO used as COMMANDING OFFICER, as CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR, and CORRECTIONS OFFICER.

None of the three of these seem to fit your posts.

So what is a CO?

I'm not unkind, but I'm tired of people looking in my windows and saying we didn't think anyone lived here. Can't tell you how many times I'm away and the cameras show a guy circling my house and peering through every window.
Anyone caught peering in my window will get a third eye and I will face the consequences like a man.

My mountain cabin and family refuge is 100 miles from the house. We go there often, but we don't live there all the time. The bastard 4 wheelers are all local people, and thus are there every day. I am afraid to cause a ruckus because they could do a lot of damage to the cabin and my trail cameras may not be enough.

At first I took a chainsaw and cut trees across the path. Next time there the trees had all been cut up and the logs neatly placed next to the trail.

I was approached by the President of the local Snowmobile Club and he asked for permission. I told him that those machines had destroyed new plantings that my son had diligently worked on the past Fall. He said sorry, but it was a Federal trail and they would go there anyway even without permission. I said I would contact the local authorities if I saw trespassers. He said HE was the local Town Justice.

He did agree to put gates up to prevent access to anyone but his Club. Next Spring the gates were still closed but the 4 wheelers had forged a trail around them.

IMHO, best to live with the locals.
I hear ya. I'm trying, but damn if I don't have a sick calf and tell the local fox hunting club to stay out of a field and off my property. Next thing I get is a text saying they are holding a hunt in that field the next morning, and I'm always away. I've told them to stay out and they always respond that they appreciate my cooperation and require access to my property for the safety of their dogs. I don't know what's worse, the locals or the private equity fund fox hunt club.

My response would be that dogs are not allowed on my property and if I see one it will be shot.

In my county dogs must be leashed. If roaming wild it is legal to shoot them.

I realize that dog owners will be aghast at my comments. My response is that if you are a responsible dog owner you will keep them secured so you won't give me the opportunity.

Yup, our hunt club cleared it with the local constabulary that a dog not on a leash could be considered feral.

My wife MIGHT get a bit upset about that. :D I wouldn't want to be the stranger that did that.

I've had SOBs bang on my door at 2 AM claiming they lost their dog.
At the farm we'd get folks who ran out of gas or who drove (drunk sometimes) their car into a ditch or field. We'd give them a gallon of gas in a glass bottle or pull them out with a tractor if it wasn't too inconvenient. Always answered the door with a shotgun in hand, but never had trouble. I do recall one young lady very late one night, she'd broken up with her boyfriend and he kicked her out of the car, let the police give her a ride home.

Never had people think the place was abandoned.

Hunting season coming up. Property is well posed plus additional signage at all entrances. Still get lots of people driving up and knocking on doors, looking in windows to see who is home. Getting pretty tired of stopping a guy in a pickup after he drives a mile up my driveway to ask to hunt or to offer to shoot coyotes. Usually something like "Hey I wanted to ask if I can hunt here." I say did you see the no trespass and no hunting signs? Yeah, but I wanted to talk to the owner. We've been hunting this land for generations (usually lies). Prosecuted a few poachers but they still keep coming. Always the same story - I know the owner and he said I can hunt/fish here. What's his name, what does he drive? I don't remember... Only been here a few years but the old manager was here for 30+ and never allowed any hunting other than him and his buddies. Thinking about adding DO NOT ASK signs but I assume I'll get, Yeah I saw the sign but I figured I'd ask anyway. Actually stopped the Porta John driver who was wandering around and he said I'm gonna get to know the owner here so I can hunt this land. Cattle farm in Virginia for reference. Yes, we have cameras. Thoughts?
You might put up another sign next to the DON'T ASK sign saying SURVEILLANCE CAMERA AREA AHEAD.

I would lose my mind over trespassers on my property . I could easily see it ending badly for somebody .
I do not hunt with dogs, but running dogs is traditional in NC and the dogs and their hunters have significant rights as relates to private property. They are not supposed to actively hunt on it without permission, but they can enter to recover their dogs and maybe game. Of course they can't destroy property, so a fence is the best answer.

About the "don't ask" sign, maybe a standard "no soliciting" sign.

I hear you Brother. I've pulled into my driveway with a line of cars blocking my path and folks fishing. And they are pissed when I start taking pictures. Last time I went to court judge walked in and asked are you the defendant? Before I could answer the CO said no he's the plaintiff. He slammed the gavel and issued a bench warrant and said we're done here. I've had SOBs bang on my door at 2 AM claiming they lost their dog. It's rural but someone is gonna get hurt.
So, was the Bench Warrant for you or the tresspassers?

You assume too much. From the OP's stories none of his local brain donors will know what "soliciting" is.

When new neighbors moved in down the road, I got a phone call from the woman saying "You probably should keep your chickens up. I have a dog that kills chickens."

I explained to her that her dog should be kept up, or he would likely disappear.

I understand about dogs and hunters and if that's the law then so be it , but somebody actively hunting or just snooping around would be VERY unwelcome and I would make sure they knew it .

Started a reply and got several paragraphs in before I just got too upset. Suffice it to say that nowadays it seems people's feelings trump other's rights.
Yeah I get wrapped around the axle on this issue. Guess I need to get to know the sheriff better. Last time I ran a plate and took him the info he shrugged it off and said yeah he's a local fireman - he was probably drunk but otherwise harmless.

I told them no to access and they say well we own all the coops in your fence lines and will maintain them. Probably 50 or more, most in disrepair. They are going to start disappearing. The gentleman farmers in the area tell me it's the neighborly thing to do, and I don't disagree, but they scatter my calves and have an entitled attitude.
