I hit the range today with a box of Aquila 124gr and a box of
Federal Premium Aluminum 115 (Walmart special).
I was surprised to see a difference in shot placement.
The Aguila 124gr shot pretty much where I pointed, the Fed
aluminum seemed to dip a bit.
This is at 32 feet outdoors at The Sharon club (here in Mass)

anyone else here experience this?
Most of the low shots here were the Federal Aluminum
(which kind of bums me out because it's so cheap) :(:(:(
I experienced the same thing shooting Fed Aluminum .45 today
as well at the same distance VS Blazer Brass .45 (both 230 gr).
Does aluminum dip or does it have a sharper recoil than brass and is causing me to snap my wrist a bit as I shoot?
I was surprised by the consistencies as well.

I tested my Shield 9mm with Speer Lawman 115, 124, & 147gr ammo. At 7 yards I noticed no difference in feel or impact point.
My husband had the same results in this side-by-side test with his Shield also.

Lighter ammo shoots lower than heavier ammo. I'm not sure, but I think that Shields are regulated for 147 grain ammo, but I guess it could be 124 grain.

All else being the same (which if being shot offhand it often isn't) the lighter bullets will hit somewhat lower if shot at 25yds.
At close range, it is mostly the shooter causing the deviation.

Remember, it is the shooter moving the gun BEFORE it fires that can throw it way off. The bullet is gone before the gun moves .050", and you can do anything you want after that without affecting the shot.

Heavier projectiles are usually superior to lighter projectiles in all SD ways except velocity.

Since higher velocities generate unrealistic numbers (the square of velocity times mass as opposed to momentum: velocity times mass) high vel ammo looks better than that it really is in real application.

Pay little attention to psi numbers.

I have shot the lawman 147 a couple of times with my Shield and my 9C. I quite like it but is seems to be almost always 2-3 dollars more for a box of 50. I scored a couple of boxes for cheap at the beginning of the summer. I only have one left. I don't feel much of a difference between 124 and 147, but I can definitely feel it between 115 and 147.

I settled on 124gr for all my 9mm plinking needs, though I still run 147gr HST for SD.

I get case lots at SGAmmo when it goes on sale in the $205 range.

1000 round case - 9mm Luger Speer Lawman 124 grain TMJ Ammo 53616 or 53651 | SGAmmo.com

I like the idea of Speer's TMJ technology to perhaps minimize vaporized lead when shooting at my indoor range.

I lived next-door to you in Norwood, at Windsor Gardens, 1981-83. Commuted on the B&M into South Station.

At either 7 or 10 yards POI between the 3 different rounds is negligible .. less then 2 inches .. groups should have been much tighter ..

Thanks for the headzup! That's good stuff at a great price, especially in light of what it will likely cost in a couple of months!

Interesting, I've never shot the federal aluminum 9mm but have shot the 45 aluminum & don't remember it hitting any different than the brass. I'll have to take some brass federal & some aluminum federal & try it again and pay closer attention to if it hits different.
