Does anyone use the 12 gauge Mini shells? Would they be ok for home defense and what would the effective range be? I've seen these at some gun shows and at CTD.

I have 4 boxes of the 2" 00 Buckshot and it just so happens I fired 3 rounds today just to see how they recoiled and patterned. They worked just fine on a leftover political sign out of an 18.5" Mossberg barrel at around 15 feet or so. The recoil is mild, about like a .410 but don't think that they won't make a big boom noise wise. They do. If you fire it inside with no noise abatement, you won't be hearing well for a while but that's pretty much any defensive round. About the effective range...unless you live in a mansion with very large rooms, they should do quite well for home defense. As far as purchase, CTD had them for $6.50 per box at one time but shipping for two boxes was more than the cost of the shells so I bought mine at a gunshow for the same price.

Thanks CW, I figured the recoil would be a lot lighter. I've been thinking about getting some for my wife when I'm away as she doesn't like a full 12 ga. load.

Have shot the Aguila mini-shells. They are 1 1/2 inches loaded length.

They will work OK in Winchester 120/1300 guns, but tend to choke Rem 870s. The Rem can be modded to work with these, but I do not recall what it entails, just remember from researching a number of years ago.

Of course, they are just fine in doubles or over and unders.

IIRC, the velocity is about what a standard field load is, and with a slightly lighter payload, the recoil was less. 12 ga mini was still more than a standard 20 gauge as far as recoil.

I load my wifes short double barrel with the Aguila 00 Buck loads. Very low recoil but plenty of velocity ot do the job! Seems to have low muzzle flash as well.....

I use Aguila micro slugs in both my Winchester Defender (single load) and my Stoeger Coach Gun. I have some of the shot rounds as well, but have never used them.
The slugs I have tried and found them accurate with the short range needed in a suburban setting.
