Here is one for you.
I have read this and other forums- gun rags
books by some of the greats like keith [ hats off please] and had a talk or two with
the likes of J.D.Jones of SSK and supervel fame.
In most all cased the magic number seams to be
1200 fps.
What ever the cal-case- barrel length ,
the load that combines bullet weight and
load to get 1200 gets the nod for
accurate effective and shootable combination.
Like:
160 to 200 gr in 357
200 to 250 in 41
240 to 300 in 44

Is there something in this combination that
we are missing???

I was thinking along similar lines recently. My velocity number is 1250fps.

.357 magnum:
158-180 grain. 1250

.44 magnum.
240-310 grain. 1250
(Although I did download the 310 "much smash 'em" bullets to 1150)

45-70 Govt.
405 grain. 1250

My Freedom Arms in .454 Casull sure is a sweet thang when using FA's recommended Unique load with a 300 gr. gas checked SWC at about 1200 fps.
