In my now deceased father's possessions, I found a Smith & Wesson 125th Danbury coin. Looking for a little info about it. He was not an avid gun lover, nor did he own any handguns. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi Rose12:

There are two different coins the standard coin and a special run of sterling silver coins. You can tell by looking at the printing on the side rim of the coin. The standard coins are $30 to $50 and the sterling coins about twice that if you find the right buyer.

Thanks for responding. The side says Medallic Art Co. Danbury, CT. I am assuming if this is a standard coin, there are plenty out there. If it is the other, is there an actual market for them, or would a buyer be few and far between?

This is a standard coin. If someone is missing the coin from thier 125th Anniv. set, they would love to have it to complete the set.

If you have a 125th Anniv. set, with the book, gun and ( you think) a missing coin, look carefully behind the lining where the coin cutout is located. The coins can slide down behind the cut out, and if you don't realize that, you think the set is missing the coin. I've "recovered" coins that way for owners who thought their coin was lost. Ed.

Thanks. It will remain a mystery as to why my dad even had one of these coins to begin with. Hopefully someone who needs it for their collection will see the posts.

Thanks for your help!
