OK, long story and advice needed on buried silver coins

Put the other shoe on your foot and think about it........Iffen you came to me and wanted to go prospecting on my land. I would answer with a firm NO.........Iffen you did it anyway.....Bad things could happen or you could be prosecuted.

See now me I would welcome a old landowner if he approached it the right way and the digging was not in my yard. Maybe catch a few old stories and history of the place.

Here's a sort of a buried treasure story for you.

Back when the Social Security Administration still issued paper checks, a guy came into an office with a stack of them, 3 to 4 inches thick. His dad had recently died, and they were finding them everywhere; in books. wall siding, places you couldn't imagine. He said the funny part was that his father had been getting money from the adult kids for years, saying he wasn't getting enough to live on.

A service rep had to take him to a desk and do all the paperwork to log them in and get proof of relationship so the funds could be reissued by the Treasury to the estate. It took a while. :) The guy said he was sure there were probably quite a few checks that weren't found, but what are you going to do? He had a good attitude considering the situation.

This was in the early to mid-1990's, and I still remember it well.
