Hello,
Trying to up load some pictures about my 13-2. Showing the 13-2 the subject of this thread with factory grips. My 13-2 4" nickel and a couple of other Smiths.

Thanks to all, I will be closing the thread when I figure out how.

99% that's hard chrome, and it looks like it was done very well.

Hard chrome was used mostly before stainless was used extensively in firearms. It's a very durable industrial finish, and looks quite good. Like bluing, it will take on the characteristics of the material it's applied to, i.e. polished or matte.

Hard chroming used to be pretty easily available, but now there's only a few vendors nationally. The EPA really did a number on the plating industry.

S&W typically marks frames, barrels, cylinders and other bigger parts made of SS with a stamped "S". If you were to pull the grips off your revolver and look on the flat of the frame I seriously doubt you will find that big stamped "S".

I find it hard to swallow that an "A+" seller on Guns Intl couldn't tell the difference in the models? That just reeks of ignorance, IMO.

It's part of the learning journey. I had already been collecting S&Ws for a few years before running into this 34-1 (like the 13, only blued and nickel) and wondered...just maybe...it's some mismarked stainless gun? Like yours, it's hard chrome. Other than the blade front sight, it looks just like a 63.
