Hi everybody. I called myself searching but didn't find a comparison.

I have the new M&P Shield 2.0 PC carry comp. LOVE it but, like many other owner have mentioned, in my hands feels just a bit "over sprung". So, want to change from the OEM recoil spring (18 lb?) to a 13 lb.

I actually went on DPMs website thought I placed the order but apparently it wasn't competed on their end. I've heard a lot of good things about their captured "soft" recoil system. But they are pretty punchy $ wise. And with them only being available thru DPM direct in Athens Greece. No US distributors carry them, I'm not sure it's worth the price or aggravation.

I read somewhere in all my research Ed Browns 13 lb spring and guide rod someone was running in their M&P 2.0. The price for both from EB are a fraction of the cost, and in the U.S.

So my question(s) is, have any of you guys tried the EB spring and guide rod? Or compared it to the DPM? Specifically on the 2.0 Comp Carry? Could you tell any difference?

I'm doing my best to make it a little "softer shooting" without major mods. I know Ed was a wizard with 1911's, and my thought is a recoil spring is a recoil spring. I mean I know there's more to it than that. But the is the DPM REALLY that much better to justify the price?

Any, experience with either. I would love to hear your thoughts.

P.S. no I'm not a girly man, but I have a frozen shoulder and anything that softens it up is worth a shot for me at least.

You could also try to buy from ISMI . There spring for M&P are the same as glock spring and more than likely ISMI makes the greater majority of springs for many brands . As of yet I do not carry a 9mm but have a m&p 4" compact with a green circle dot aand lowered my spring rate to ISMI 15lb recoil spring . I only shooting standard pressure 124gr reloads more so I can stay sharp with the dot optic . I carry a full size M&P 40sw now . I mentioned glock springs as you might find a glock spring in the weight you want near by ? I would not spend money on a brown . You do not need to replace your guide rod . Just remove the bolt on your rod , swap spring and replace the bolt and washer if yours has one . DPM recoil thangy as wasting good money .

Thank you. Great info. Yeah Browns is sold out of the springs. And when I tried to order from DPM it has been a pain. At least withhas been super nice. Very helpful, however, I'm with you, they two acts of congress, bank has to verify since it's an overseas transactions, I have called the security company for my card that locked it down for the weekend. The more time and research into it I got the less interested I became in the captured set. By the time the hit you get with the exchange rate from Greece and the with the shipping I could buy a lot of other supply's for that kinda money. I'll check with ISMI, I greatly appreciate the heads up my mans! Good lookin out.

I bought two sets (light and standard) of DPMs for a P365 with Radian Ramjet and Afterburner. Nothing but problems. Put the original back in, and that will at least shoot +P 124's reliably (but nothing else). I couldn't get the DPMs in any configuration to work with anything -- FTF and a whole lotta FTRB. Yes, the M&P 2.0 Carry Comp is a bit oversprung, but it's reliable as configured, so I just deal with the barrel getting forced down when the slide goes back into battery.

You should add and test one new change at a time and maybe you did but your advise to use the m&p as it came is not always the best advise when a recoil spring only cost less than 20 bucks , not around the 600 dollar opps in upgrades that did not work well in a p365 !

I changes spring in my wifes m&p core 4.25 9mm when she was shooting matches with it years ago . and my 40sw version was fed 155gr underwood hot loads and comparable reloads for years . I ran a 2lb heavier recoil spring only for years . Both have been reliable for the loads used .

My wife just remined me when our girls wanted to move up from 22lr handguns to try her 9mm when still young girls . I loaded some 95 gr lead rn and a lite powder load 3.3gr of bullseye powder puff loads and ran a 10lb recoil spring in my wifes m&p 4.25 core . It ran well and girls liked it . Todays it back to stock and filled with 147gr 980fps loads .

That's fine, you do you. How much does it cost in ammo to make absolutely certain the pistol is reliable with carry loads? It's not as if the cost of the spring is the only cost involved. It's one thing to add a few pounds to compensate for running very hot ammo, but another to lighten it in order to "reduce recoil." Again, though, I'm speaking as to defensive handguns, not competition. Nobody's gonna die if you have a malfunction during a competition. IMO, reliability is the absolute first consideration in a defensive firearm.

P.S. Where in my post did you see it presented as "advise" (advice, I imply you meant), rather than merely my own experience and choice? Sorry you irrationally viewed my post as peeing in your Cheerios, man.

bigfatty I reloaded all our practice ammo and some hunting ammo since '76 and shoot a still shoot a couple thousand rounds of reloads a year . For me to proof a new firearm or a change to a firearm would be 400 rounds fired . Now understand I have a several pistols I might carry so moving one to a test cycle do to parts changed might take a couple hours over a couple days or a week to proof it again . I ,, we have not owned a competition firearm in years and personall the last time I shot in a IPSC match was back in 1978 Hate the hang around time to get your change to shoot again . MY wifes early production CORE has been a at home range handgun or hd handgun for some years now and she shoots as often as I do - weekly !

Might be I'm lucky but I've never had a unreliable handgun like your unreliable after upgrades to your P365.

Might be those cheerios where yours that were pissed in . Hope your p365 reliable now .

I bought a DPMS spring from Optics Planet for my Shield Plus CC about a month ago.
