13 vs 66

We all have our personal preferences no doubt.

If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the 3" Model 13. Other's have already given the biggest reason as to why, ejection issues.

I'm fortunate to own both a 3" Model 65 and a 3" Model 66. The Model 65 I picked up back in the late 90's. It had been an 'agency' gun (not sure which) and it showed. I cleaned it up with polishing wheels and stopped at 600 grit. I bead blasted the top strap and cylinder flutes and let it go at that. The final touches being to chamfer the charge holes and sand down a beater pair of Herrett's Shooting Stars to round butt configuration to fit my hand. I couldn't be happier. Not much investment given the time period when I purchased it back then, and I'm not overly concerned about getting character marks on.

Good luck making your decision.

I have a 2 1/2" 66 and 19........ two 3" 65s and three 3" 66s........ been searching for a 3" 13 in the LGSs of W. Pa. for a decade............

"desirable" ????........................both are great carry guns... each has some pro and cons over the other ........ but ... it's really a matter of which you "like" best.

I bought a blue 3" M13 which I gifted to my then financee'... they were FBI issue at the time & hard to come by. When we called it quits, she declined to sell it back to me.
I consoled myself, not long after, when I bought a 3" M66-2 which I still have.

I carried it OD & as a trail gun afoot & on horseback.

I have a 3" blue 13 and a 3" SS 64. Frankly I like the 64 better because of resistance to rust, plus I've never been too fond of shooting magnums out of a short barrel. I have had a few 2 1/2" 19's and 66's over the years, but they just never "grew" on me so I passed them on.

I've got a 2.5" Mod. 66-2 and a 4" Mod. 66-a for carry guns. I seldom carry the 2.5" anymore. I prefer the stainless steel revolvers as I can sweat on them and they don't start turning orange before sundown. I suppose I'd prefer a 3" Mod. 66 with a round butt. All of that being said, if you want to roll up a $100.00 bill and insert it in the muzzle of that 3" blued steel abomination and send it to me, I'd take that embarassment off your hands. I'd not do that for just anybody.

IMHO, the best shooting, and pointing of the little K-framed .357 is the Model 13 3" and the stainless version, the Model 65 3" version.

I've owned both in question, and will never sell my M65. Wow, what great shooting 3" K-frames, and much easier/faster to hit with vs. the 2.5" barreled K frames.

I took mine out of the safe today and ran some rounds through it. Super accurate, fast from the holster, hits point of aim, and handles like a dream. Loots incredible too!

I'm a sucker for 3" barrelled Smiths.
