Hello all,

Looking to increase my trigger weight on my 14-3 its a double single action pistol. But in single action its breaking under 2 1/4 lbs.. want to raise it to 2 1/2 to 2 3/4

would changing out the old springs for new bring the weight back up? which springs do i need to replace?

thanks
Chris

OKFC05 I found a mainspring at a local gun shop but no strain screw.... if i have to bend the mainspring which direction increase or decreases the poundage?

Thanks

Trigger pull on a S&W is controlled mostly by the rebound spring, and a light rebound spring changes both the single and double action pull weight. Changing the hammer spring or hammer spring strain screw should have very little effect on single action pull. Messing with the strain screw is not a good idea, as it can lead to misfires and other problems. Put a standard weight rebound spring in and see if that does not fix the problem.

Probably the safest route is to assume all the springs have been messed with and get your gun back to stock. Without going into the details, if your rebound spring was clipped, the mainspring pressure was most likely changed to get it to work at all. There is a synergistc effect between the rebound and mainspring pressure.
If you are not familiar with the internals, it might be time to have a good revolver smith go over it and see exactly what you have.
Or just shoot it as is if it is reliable.

What is the weight of the double action trigger pull? It could tell you a lot.

note sure on double action. I went to shoot a DR match and the single action didn't pass.
