Factory threaded barrels come standard with a 1/2-28 thread on there and if your rifle has them it should already have a Mil Standard A2 style flash suppressor on it.

mine is one of the earlier models...plain barrel. i put the 1/2-28 adapter (not sure what my plans are yet, thus the reason for the adapter) from tactical 22, was just looking for the factory suppressor.

Your welcome, too bad its backordered. Now that I actually looked, all the cheaper ones are backordered, Wow they got popular quick as I got mine around a month ago, and they had plenty when I called to check.

You can put on any ol' flash hider or muzzle brake. I see the A2 flash hiders for around $5.00 at gun shows all the time.

Not to thread jack here...

But what's the difference between A1 and A2 style's?

They look the same from the pictures.

P.S. I contacted S&W and they said you CAN purchase a flash hider from their service department. I have yet to call the service department to get a price though.

Thanks,

The A1 has slits all the way around. No timing needed, just tighten it.
The A2 has the bottom half with no slits. Helps lower muzzle rise a little and keeps dust from flying when your prone. It needs to be timed so the slits are up and the solid is down. That is accomplished with a crush washer or peel washer. I prefer crush washers.
