15-22 Hard Case

I hate to thread jack but with my cut down 15-22,
Its 24.5", I have a scope and 6 mags.
Can anyone tell me a cheap small option for a 26"ish case.
Im sorry but $150+ on a case that Im not shipping/traveling in is too costly for me.
I was thinking along the lines of a powertool case or violin/keyboard case.

I'd seriously look at the Plano All Weather 36" case, as has been pictured in this thread earlier.

I have the 42" case and it holds my 16" 5.56 upper and my 9" 300 BO (upper and lower - I use the same lower for both). Both are scoped. The suppressor and several magazines fit comfortably inside. Overall, not too heavy all things considered. The 42" (barely) fits width-wise in my Mini Cooper.

I'm building a shorty 9mm AR. OAL will be about where your SBR is (with suppressor attached). There just are NO cases (period) that are designed for SBRs. I've looked. You might find one if you're willing to spend $400. I'm not. I'll be getting the 36" plano for it.

The plano all weather is GTG and half or less than a pelican. Good enough for 'most' purposes.

I've got the Cabela's Xtreme Lite Tactical Case, which has enough room to accommodate my M-Faux carbine with stock collapsed and Aimpoint Pro mounted, plus a half-dozen 30 rd. mags. $100. Very nice.

I purchased a Flambeau Tactical Rifle Case on Amazon a few months ago for $33 shipped.
It is a great deal for the price and does everything I need it to.

Im suprised how many of you used the open cell pick and pluck foam. This foam can break down over time with exposure to gun oils and lubricants it also pulls the oils from the gun making it not preered for long term storage. Hence why I plan to used closed cell and a hot wire for a custom foam insert. adding another 100 bucks in foam easy to the price of the case.

As Rob state I have almost 1200 bucks into my 15-22 I want to protect it and keep it away from the kiddos. I travel with my gun anytime I want to shoot it and having guns in the car loose makes cops un easy especially in Texas.

Thanks all for the input gave me some great ideas.

Different tools for different jobs. LOL I've never seen a $100. piece of foam though. There is no doubt Pelican makes some nice cases, I have a couple. The Plano 108361 is more than capable enough to get the job done and the foam life is a non issue, Pelican uses open cell pick and pluck in some of their cases. This thread pushed me to just order another Plano. Thanks

Anyone know the difference between the 108361 and 108364? They look the same other than handle color (yellow vs black)...

A while back I picked up a Doscocil(?) case for takedown shotguns on sale for about $65 or so. It fits AR carbines just fine. Not bombproof but sufficient to throw in the back of the pickup and protect a $2K AR. I have a Pelican wannabe "tactical" for another rifle that does the same job, looks very macho, and is about four times as heavy as it needs to be.

But then I'm a wuss.

Not sure what you mean by stating you have never seen a 100 dollar piece of foam......

In order to have a 1/4 of foam on the outside around the top and bottom inner walls of the case and then use seperate inserts for top and bottom you have to order atleast two maybe three different different widths. Each width has a minimum order. If yuou go over 75 bucks it ships free. Hence the 100 dollar price tag on a pieece of foam. Im custom cutting the pattern into closed cell foam with a hot wire. Its not a mickey mouse job but for a realy nice finish on something you can store the rifle in indefinitly without concern its my prefered way.

The 108361 is the number listed on Plano's website, not sure about the other number. The first case I ordered showed a yellow handle in the description pic but the one that arrived was black.
If you want to make a custom hard case the possibilities are endless, like this slick soft case that inspired me to duplicate it. Multiple seperate pieces of foam unrequired for either hard or soft case.

Not to be disrespectful but I am not trying to pad my gun or alter its appearence in the case. Also the foam you have pictured is open cell foam which will deterorate over time with exposure to oils. Worst then that it will pull oils from your gun since its open cell foam meaning long tern storage could be a problem, not as big a concern with a polymer gun. In a year or even 3 you may be fine but Im talking a one and done true custom cut hard case. Look around for custom cut closed cell foam rifle cases what some do is pure art work. Its a definit skill that puts the look of the case to something youw ould see in a movie or in possibly my closet. ;)

Saw this the other day... Seems to fit your bill just fine. Comes with or without foam. Lockable and has wheels. Still less expensive than a pelican I think.

Gun Carrying Case KR10 Series for 36" long guns by CaseCruzer

We get that you don't like open cell foam because you are going to use the case for long term storage.

You asked why other like myself use open cell. Cost, flexibility, and we aren't likely to be worried about long term storage. Add some moisture bags and it shouldn't be an issue.

Given that there aren't a whole lot of reviews bashing open cell foam for gun cases, except for long term storage perhaps close cell is overhyped. Kinda like paying for bottled water and getting LA tap water. To each their own!

Cheers and best of luck!
