15-22 is this a ftf - failure to feed

If I get a failure to fire i just start throwing grenades. That clears most people out of the range. I then sling my rifle and blast my way to my car with my .45. I diagnose when i get home.:D

now that is funny. chuck, you in combat or just come back? sounds like you are on the front line there buddy.

second time out - same brand ammo - Winchester, different model(?).
1st two mags were much better as i paid close attention to loading the mag (although i had done this on 1st time out). got two FTFs in 50.

2nd two mags it got ugly. About 10 FTS (and i only loaded the mag to about 20 rounds) then I started getting stove pipes and double feeds.

i am planning on finding someone around here that has the CCI ammo to try and i am tempted to throw this magazine in the trash. i can't help but think my first gut feeling is close - magazine sucks

i ordered two more mags from cabelas. i'm interested to see if i get better performance from them. i am going to label them as suggested from some previous threads i've read. that way i can rate em.

you don't even have a gun anymore. you need to just let me use them.

Lol and I thought I was the only 1 that did that..... hey phil before summer gets here and its 9426 degrees out side I'm going to set the tac range bamck up for some rimfire fun with metalic targets and some tannerite along the way just for good measure.. u think you might be interested

Gee... let me think it over and I'll get back to ya.... (.00001 second elapses) YES!

Just tell me when my friend and I'll be there. Probably leave Pugsters at home for this one. But maybe we could shoot some vids of the Tannerite for her to watch and bark at. :D

My practice mirrors conditions I expect to encounter in the real world.

Non-diagnostic immediate action is one of them. Remember, you don't rise to the occasion, you revert to your training in moments of crisis.

I shoot the M&P 15-22 the same way I shoot my M4 Carbine. Click? Tap-Rack-Roll. Automatically. No thought. By rote.

For this reason I only buy and shoot first class ammo so I don't have to worry about squibs any more than I fear a meteorite strike. Yeah, it could happen! ;)

cool ill yell at you when it warms up enough that we wont freeze r butts off.. but before it gets hot... we did it in july last year it was way to hot but it didnt seem to matter

so i decided to email S&W to see what their take on my issue is and they told me to send in for warranty repair. is it worth it to take the hit now and do it? do others that have sent it back see a replaced component of sorts to resolve this? i'd rather send it back if i know something will be done instead of fight it for more weeks to come only to send it back anyways. xx1trackxx bought his two days before me at the same place and already had to send his back. i have not compared serial #s but my guess is they could be pretty close if this matters.

thoughts?

unless you can't bear to be away from her for a couple weeks, i'd send it in, get the new springs and live carefree after she comes home. it won't cost you anything but time and you may end up with a better rifle.

forget the serial number. i think we've determined that the numbers, manual stars, etc. have no bearing on whether or not your rifle will require smith service.

thanks. i think i will. since i am a novice, i surely don't want to speculate or try to fix it and if i take Chucks advice i need to be worrying about whats down range and not what didn't load up. ;)

I'm getting close to sending mine back for the 'blue' update. But I'd like to hear more about how the 'blue' rifle performs, especially with a wide variety of ammo, before sending it back. So far, the 15-22 'updated to latest spec' seems to be an evolving spec. I'd like to be a bit more confident that S&W has got the 15-22 in the 'final' latest spec stage.

500+ since "Update to latest spec" in December -- no blue springs.

333 since the "15 minute trigger job."

A couple of failures to feed which I attribute to magazines. The extractor is still there! ;)

went to the range today with friend who got his back friday. it worked flawlessly. we put close to 200 rounds through it with 0 problems. he got the blue springs, and a new mag with the 25rd notation. it was so nice to see this thing fire and fun when it works. mine will be here Monday. can't wait. kudos to S&W for turning them around so fast.

Range Report

Finally got to fire my 15-22 for the first time time today. S/N DTHXXXX. Using original mag (25 rd) and two new ones (all S&W 22LR) here are results:
Mag 1-(original) CCI. 1 FTF.
Mag 2-CCI. OK.
Mag 3-Win Super-X. OK.

My second load:
Mag 1-Remington (at least 25 years old. 50 rd box marked $1.50 clearance). 1 FTF.
Mag 2-Federal Bulk Hollow Pt. OK
Mag 3-Federal Bulk Hollow Pt. 1 FTF.

My time was short today but will see next week how it continues to perform. Stay tuned.

Hope this insight has some value anyway. :)

cabela's finally called me (gun spent more time there than it did at S&W!)

new mag with 25rd notation, and blue springs.

thing shot flawlessly. i put close to 300 rds in it last night with no issues whatsoever. definitely worth sending it back.
