This is my first post on this forum. I've been reading for a couple days; looks like a nice place.

Like many here, my 15-22 had issues.

At one point, the gun fired with an open breach/misfeed. That was unpleasant.

In that incident the extractor was ejected and lost. I found the spring.

Right now the gun fires and ejects fairly well even without the extractor. I made the adjustment to the ejector and I don't experience many fte's, but they still happen.

Since I just got the gun, I don't want to send it back to S&W right away, although I will eventually. I'm handy with guns, and can make many "improvements" myself, so I'm considering making my own extractor, if it seems feasable.

Can someone take some detailed photos of their extractor, maybe next to a ruler?

Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated. And for those who will say I shouldn't mess with it, please don't bother; I know, I know, I know...

Welcome Alien VFR. :) I sure do find your attitude refreshing. There are a couple of others here like you, and maybe they can help you with the pic you need.

You are the second person who has posted here, that I am aware of, about how the 15-22 still ejects rounds without an extractor. Well that's blow back semi auto for you. :D

Please keep us informed about how things go.

Here's hint: It uses the exact same extractor as an S&W 22 A2 pistol. ;)

If I were you I wouldn't touch it myself......not until the warranty expires.

If you mess with it and it's obvious at the factory then they could void your warranty.

I went to a local Gander Mountain. They had a 15-22 there. I spoke w/ the salesmen and he decided to give me the extractor from their gun. Now he'll send his gun back so I don't have to.

Excellent.

I'll try some test shots tomorrow and let you know how it's performing.

Extractor problem also!

I took mine out on Nov. 27th for the first time after my purchase 6 weeks ago. Ran through 250 CCI's copper plated with no problem. Next, I loaded mag's with Winchester rounds. Shot about 2 mag's until started having FTE problem. Found a spring and pin on the firing table. Took it to a gunsmith friend and he said I lost the extractor. I will send it back.
