Yeah but, like i said, Ive been shootin this thing for a while now and have never seen the "25 round" mag.
What IMHO, would make more sence is if they decided to ADD 25 rnd to the mag to make it "easier" to tell the 25 nd 10 apart.
rip, that was your article about the 22lr 25 rd new mags. Do they work better or not?![]()
ok so to clear this up a bit.
Before I had the OOB I had 4 old mags. I sent one with my gun to smith to have the gun fixed.
When the gun came back the spec sheet said "replaced magazine" and I got the new magazine.
the old mags still have mag snag issues where the bullet gets stuck standing up in the mag and the bullet gets dented by the bolt.
the new mag has had NO problems.
pictures show the difference in the mags.
I am still a bit confused as to which version is 1st or 2nd Gen. Valid points have been made by many. I attached a picture of two of my mags.
The mag on the left is (I call it 1st Gen) what came with my DTHxxxx 15-22 in early October 2009. I also ordered 3 additional mags from S&W at the same time. I waited 3 or 4 weeks and they arrived. I then had 4 mags that all appear just as the picture shows on the left; 22 LR with 25 ROUND underneath.
The earliest anyone could purchase a 15-22 here locally was Oct. 2009. I was one of the first to buy. I only received the 2 complimentary mags with 22 LR only on them after my rifle went in for extractor repair.
All mags work fine now, but I didn't even know there was a difference until I received the two complimentary ones. Phil has a DTHxxxx and he states his has 22 LR only; so it beats me which is 1st or 2nd gen I am just glad everything works fine now.
it does not look like wear to me.
it does not look like wear to me.
The pictures don't appear to be wear. What i'm more concerned w/ is the angle of the top round on the 22lr 25 rd mag. That could be huge![]()
that is what I tried saying here http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-...-new-25-round-15-22-magazine.html#post1280259
Yeah, Rip could you post some picks with the mag loaded up some? I think that would truly help. Or anybody else that has these 2 different labled mags. To me it would make sense that the NEW mags would be labled 25 rd because the ca compliant version came out 2nd and that way they could tell the difference.I've been lamenting about the round not fully lifting into position in the mag for months. With a dozen rounds in the mag, I pull down abuot one round height on ALAB and let back up. Sometimes the top round doesn't fully lift. But your pics are with a round hanging half way out of the magazine.
Load em both up with a dozen or so rounds and see if there is really any difference in lift and angle between the two mags. I'd be interested to know.

Hear ya go sorry it took so long,
When I took the pictures this time I kept the bullet as far back as it could go and where it would normally be when you would go to load the mag into the gun.
As you can clearly see the bullet is sitting at a higher angle with the new mag(22LR 22 round).
I took the mags apart and looked at the orange followers and they are exactly the same.
The only thing that would make this difference would then have to be the black housing of the mag. So I started the tear down of the mags and started looking around.
The pictures are not very god but it should be good enough to see that there is a difference in the top of the tracks where the bullet slides. I tried outlining the differences. The green outline shows a raised sections and the orange shows indented sections. The green outline is the track that the bullets follow when sliding up and down.
