158gr SWC standard and +P results

I tested some +P loads this weekend in addition to some of my “pet” 158 grain SWC’s. I picked up an 8 pounder of Win244 last year as my FFL had some……

So far I really like it with lighter target loads. Here’s my results with the standard pressure load:

158gr X-treme/Summit SWC
4gr Win244, 1.46” COAL, Remington SP

4” 19-3 Summit: 822fps
3.25” 66-5 X-Treme: 760fps
3.25” 66-5 Summit: 815fps
2.5” 66-7 X-Treme: 715fps
2.5” 66-7 Summit: 770fps
2” Magnum Carry X-Treme: 649fps

I’m using Summit City coated 158 SWC’s as well as X-Treme plated. I’m surprised my 4” 19 was so close to my 66 3.25”…

Here’s my +P load. I’m a big fan of HS-6 and this is a slightly older recipe.

158gr Summit SWC +P
7gr HS-6, 1.475” COAL, CCI SPM

4” 19-3: 935fps
2.5” 66-1: 855fps

I really don't worry about the chronograph numbers.

Groups on target is job #1 for my reloads. So did you get any "spectacular" groups?

Well, I’ve only shot these loads offhand and not many of the +P load. After the chrono results I did shoot the 4” 19 a bit more with the Win244 standard pressure load. It’s shot very well for me in the past and did again on Saturday.

This is 12 rounds offhand at 15 yards. Obviously not very scientific.

Same here. I got some 44 Special and 44 Magnum handloads I want to put on target.

Thanks for the data and pictures.

One thing about plated and coated bullets is that they "Might" be just a wee bit different in OAL dia.
along with barrel friction, due to their material make ups.

No Biggie but it might cause your groups to strike at different impact spots
with the different fps, etc., etc. that is happening.

Loaded up some 357’s today with Win244. 6 grains with a 158 SWC. I’ll chrono them tomorrow and post a new thread.
