I was wondering if anyone could tell me if all 16-4’s came with the combat grips or if some of them came with magna grips from the factory. There is another printed label Over the end label on the box that reads:

16 SW 4” B SB AS

Does anyone know what the AS would stand for?

I don't know the answer for certain, but everyone I've ever seen came with the combat stocks. You're probably familiar with "never say never when it comes to S&W". :) Here's the label from mine.

Mine has the combat stocks I would expect. I purchased this one new.

Interesting replies! Thank you for the quick responses. Seems like we are at a toss up so far.

The one 4" I have came with combat stocks, I bet AS means adjustable sights, on the store label.

My 4” came with them; I’ve never seen or heard of a 16-4 that didn’t.

Mine came with combats. I don't know of any other factory option. I replaced mine with K-frame targets because they fit me better. The combat's finger grooves don't align with my stubby fingers very well. They reside in the blue box in case my fingers grow. :D

Combats bring a pretty penny these days, so that may be another reason we see 16-4's with non-standard stocks

Mine came with Combat stocks. I suspect some previous owners removed the valuable Combats and replaced them with less expensive Target stocks. Greedy buggers!

Mine came with SB Combat's, The front sight had been installed by a prior owner, which I promptly removed as it was way too high for shooting.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I have a back burner deal that should come to fruition in a bout a month or so. The gun in question has a set of magnas on it but I have some combats sitting in my spare grip drawer that will soon have a purpose again!

Looks like you got that one in Amarillo.

Mine came with Combats. It was made the day after Dave's gun.

That’s so weird. My s/n is one digit higher than Dave’s, but mine was made 2 weeks later according to the Julian date.
