Hi all,

I started a thread a while back asking if you guys thought $450 was an ok price for a 1966 model 17-2 with nice diamond targets. The thing is it has had its barrel chopped to 4" long ago. It looks to have been done well and I guess I can replace the barrel down the track (if I can ever find one that is!).

EVERYONE said grab it...so I did. As I said in the other thread these come up very rarely in Australia so I think I did well.

The stocks are slightly mis-matched in colour but are very sharp and clean with no major dings.

All in all I am happy with my little 17-2 shooter, butchered barrel and all :)

K22's

Gday Mike,

Very nice custom short barrel Model 17 .
I wouldnt change that barrel....Kinda Looks like a Dayton gun

If you decide you cant live with it one day,
drop me a email and maybe we can work out a trade as thats how I want mine to look..

S&W made a few short barrel K22's like yours back in the late 40's to test the feasability of a short K22.
They also made a chopped down K22 HB in the 17-5 series after eliminating the Model 18 line..

Congratulations on the purchase of the great looking Model 17-2 and I agree I would leave the short barrel and shoot the **** out of it.

I can only imagine one thing better than what it is and that is if the barrel had been chopped to 5 inches! I have a model 17 and it is a great little gun. I would like to have one that has been cut to 5 inches and a model 18, also. I wouldn't change a thing.

Thanks for the responses :)

I have aslways been a bit of a purist, but the chopped barrel has grown on me now :) It is a lovely balanced little k frame :)

I think I will save the grips for a more collectable gun when it comes along.
