17-5 8 3/8"

Picked up this 17-5 8 3/8" today with the box & tools etc. Should go good with my 17-3 6" & my 18-4 4"

Very cool revolver!

Mine shoots best with standard velocity lead ammo (40gr). The "Stinger" and other high velocity stuff seems to be all over the place.

here's mine a 17-4 with it's "brother" a 14-3

Seems like the 17-4 is the most common 8 3/8" dash #.
Mine in the above post ran me $400 nearly 2 years ago. Just had to have it!

Davwingman... Does your 17-5 have the heavy barrel profile (more or less straight, very little taper) and a wide, straight rib? The barrel on my 17-5 is very heavy, and I believe the rib is 7/16" or so, straight from frame to muzzle, little taper, if any. It is a 6-inch gun.

Barrel diameter at muzzle isabout .652 which is the same as a 14-3 8 3/8" that I have. Rib is .553 at the muzzle same as the 14-3. The Barrel on the 17-5 is more or less straight with very little taper. Hope this helps.

Yes, that sounds like mine. I made a typo in my earlier post when I said 7/16" - I should have said 9/16". Thanks for the info.

I also have the "trio" of K-frame .22s. I have a 6" 17-3, a 4" 18-4, and an 8 3/8" 17-4, made in 1980. The latter is one my most accurate .22 handguns. It's really more like a rifle than a revolver. Put your sights on what you want to hit, squeeze carefully, and bingo. It's a real joy. Congrats on getting a great gun!
