17-6 born on date

Hello I purchased a nice 17-6 a couple months ago I have the box with the order date but not sure how to read it it says 9289 so is that sept 2nd of 89? Thanks for any help

I am not sure any more but I think I remember………92nd day of 1989….I'm proobably wrong. Why don't you just call S&W and find out for sure…then be a sport and post back here and let us know for sure? I would like to know.I think it is called the Julien date or something?

Just looked up the number 9289 on a Julian date converter and it says 9289 is October 16 2019…….??

Nope! The first digit is the year and the following three digits are the days of the year. You have to know the decade, so starting with the 9, it could be 79, 89, 99, 09 or 19. So, you have to kinda know about when things happened in the evolution of the product to know the date. Since it is an old frame with the underlug barrel, no MIM hammer and trigger i would say the 289th day of 1989. whatever date that was.
