I was thinking about how 125 gr beat up m19s. I was wondering how a 180 cast wide flat nose double tap or BB would do. A friend got 1172-fps from his 2 3/4" ruger with the double tap with excellent groups. I think this would be a nice woods carry or defensive round. Would this heavy slower round be friendlier to a k frame than other high intensity rounds?

Buffalo Bore® 180gr LSWC will rock your world in a S&W Mdl 19! I only shoot it in my L frame S&W® Mdl 686.

Either of those loads is about as good as it gets for protection in the woods or mountains.

Double Tap:
180-gr. or 200-gr. WFNGC (Wide Flat Nose Gas Checked) Hard Cast: For barrier penetration & protection in the mountains.

Buffalo Bore:
180-gr. Hardcast Lead Flat Nose (19A) For barrier penetration & protection in the mountains.

______________

For SD around the home, the following load in 357-Mag. is hard to beat:

Federal:
140-gr. Copper HP Barnes Expander (P357XB1)

I really like Buffalo Bore ammo. I shoot this bullet from my L frame 686.

I think the BB 180gr Heavy Magnum might loosen a K after a while. If you have an L frame, I'd stick with that. If the 19 is the only gun you own, I'm sure it would be ok with "limited" exposure to that round.
You also might want to try their "heavy" standard 38, 150 grain wadcutter.
Super accurate bullet. Plenty of whoop for 2-legged or smaller 4 legged critters. A lot less wear on your 19.
