Collection HOLE (sell me on a K frame choice)

For me, K frames begin and end with the Model 10. Or Victory. M&P. Pre Model 10. Whatever, the quintessential service revolver is a K frame .38 special. All of the barrel choices are acceptable. :) Although honestly, to me there's no reason to go longer than 5".

I recommend one of these K-Frames:

S&W Model 15-4 "Combat Masterpiece" in 38 Special

S&W Model 17-4 "K22 Masterpiece" in .22 Long Rifle

S&W Mode 19-3 "Combat Magnum" in 357 Magnum

Thank you for considering my recommended K-frames.

God bless,

Wood714, 3" RB 66? Outstanding.! I had one in the mid 80s the lgs owner told me was a " Treasury contract overrun". Wish I'd kept it...

M-48 in 22 Magnum. You already have a 22 (Ruger) but a 22 Magnum would round things out with a different caliber and still a K frame.
SWCA 892

Thought of that. My Ruger is a convertible (.22lr & .22 mag)

I think what's hanging me up so much on the M17 idea is that for basically the same money, I can have a more powerful gun that's just as attractive.

I simply don't know. Eventually I'll probably end up with both a 17 and 19 (and who knows how many others) ... it's just a question of which one first.

Especially since a few hundred extra dollars fell into my lap today - potentially speeding up the timeframe.

Slow down, big fellah!

About fell in love with pics of a 19-3 and got into a mini bidding war, before I settled down and realized I was about to empty my checking account. :D

Bills are paid for the month already, but I'm not in the mood for top ramen and bologna sandwiches until December.

Another will come along when it's meant to happen.

I'm still mad that I let it go though. LOL

Actually - you're in the most fun part of the hunt.

The initial stage that for me, is called 'Inventing A Niche' - - that is making up a viable reason to hunt, look for and lay hands on the targeted hardware for this 'invented niche'.

I could echo what many here have recommended - but my .02 is not even worth that.
I started with K frames I suppose - for years was fine with one - my issued M66 4".
Some years went by, then retirement and got the bug. Have since enjoyed accumulating many K frames, with the only REAL organization being a bevy of M10/M&P's in 2", 3". many iterations of 4", a 5" and just recently a M&P .38 6" pre-war. (In pic)

Enjoy the holy quest!

OP...you don't have a hole..........you have a bunch of hole(S). No K frames? Impossible...OK enough fun and jest

Probably the Model 10 has spent more time walking beats and in/out of holsters than any other handgun in our land. (Yea..I know the pundits will flame me on that one for sure).

But as stated above by several posters, 357 Maggie gets expensive, 38 Special is fun time for range duty, but plinking and training (9 kids, now 13 grandkids...ask me how I know) equals none other than 22LR for me and mine...so on a budget, love real blue steel and walnut, gotta be S & W? Model 17 is the winner IMHO.

Of course if you can throw some more $ in the kitty (check with the appropriations manager or ways & means committee first...at least at my place).:)

Consider an "oldie" Model 1899, and of course the K22 Masterpiece (1947) or the WWII Victory, or of course the Model 19 (shiny not necessary for club admittance), or the Model 65 (fixed site version of the Model 66) which is just as much fun (for me) but a lot less appropriation costs (around here $400-$450).

Have fun and thank you for allowing me (and the others posting here) to spend your money:D

Hmmm ... I was thinking about this thread today on my way home from the FFL.

55 days later, and I now own 4 K-frames.

1st came the M19-4:

Next, was the M15-2:

Shortly after that, the .38 Military & Police (postwar) arrived:

Finally - Today, my M13-4 came home:

Yep, I'm hooked on K-frames. Now I need a M64, M65, M66, and M67 so I have the stainless versions as well.

Buy a K-frame Model 18 in .22 LR caliber. Down the road, you will consider it to be the very best buying decision you ever made. That is because the Model 18 is simply the finest most useful .22 revolver ever designed and produced by S&W. It is the .22 LR revolver that every other manufacturer would like to equal. Sincerely. bruce.

You need a model 12! They seem to be cheaper than most Ks for some reason. As I recall, I got a beautiful M12 snubbie for $400 shipped off this forum, and later saw them on gunbroker for about the same money if you shop around.

You said for the range so I'm glad to see a Model 15 among your recent purchases. A versatile revolver that will be a fun shooter.

Well know, that's a great bunch of k frames.
Congrats on acquiring them.
But, you are missing the finest of all.
A K38 Masterpiece or model 14.

Personally, my favorite K frame is the Model 13 3". Absolutely perfect in every way IMO. Put a Tyler's Tgrip on it with checkered walnuts like me or roll with a Pachmyr for a little fatter grip, which is how I found mine before I put period correct walnuts on it.
