I see 10MM and 40 S&W listed together in many places as using the same bullet. Other times they are listed not together. Can I use 180 gr Hornady HAP projectiles labeled as 10MM for the 40S&W loads? As far as I can tell they are identical projectiles.

Thanks in advance.

They are exactly the same diameter. The only issue is some jhp are designed for the higher impact vel, like the Winchester silver tip hp. They just don't expand @ normal 40 vel.

I believe the HAP bullets, even though they are hollow point are designed for range use. If you are using for self defense or hunting I'd go with the XTP. My Hornady reloading manual, I think it is #8, did not have the newly introduced HAP data listed. I emailed Hornady reloading tech service and was told the XTP data is interchangeable with the HAP.

Yes these are HAP, Hornady Action Pistol projectiles. These are only for range use. I've been using the 9MM ones for my target loads and they are extremely accurate the way I have been loading them. I've been using Berry's Coated for my .40S&W in FN but they are limited to 1250FPS and with the load I use I will be pushing that out of my Carbine.

Thanks everyone. Locally I can find 10MM projectiles all over, but 40 S&W are more scarce, and usually in boxes of 100 only and they are much higher at lower counts than bulk. Today I found boxes of 500 HAP's 10MM at the Local Gander Mountain. I bought some to load in my 40S&W and I also have about 100 10MM cases I will load with them.

I load 40S&W and use,,,,Nosler Sporting Handgun Bullets
40 S&W, 10mm Auto (400 Diameter) 180 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point.

Currently on sale at Midway but on backorder

Again, 40 & 10mm are identical as to pressures & loading data. The only diff will be In Terminal performance for jhp.
