1894 Stevens Favorite

Picked up this lil .22 last night at a LGS. Bore is mint and the pivoting block is in excellent condition. Marbles rear tang sight and a folding Lyman from sight that also has a folding ring. The gun SN has no letter prefix,...and it is a two digit .

Giz, Great little gun.

I grew up with a gun just like that with a full octagonal barrel including the rear sight.

A great uncle bought it new for $3.50. It was passed down to me and I started shooting and hunting with it at age 6.

Shot enough Jack rabbits with it to pay for a Nylon 66 during high school. My son and grand son learned to shoot with it and it still sits in the safe in an honored space.

Any time there's some shooting to be done, it draws the duty. It even whacked a few pasture poodles last summer on the last annual PD shoot when Dave Keith and WYO came ashootin'

Best little .22 I own. It's missing the butt plate it shoots like a laser.

My oldest grandson will be shooting this soon. He just turned 5....

Interesting folding front sights...

Nice little Favorite.
Lyman Beach(es) Front Sight.
Special order for most any US made rifle in the late 1800's to WW2.
Lots of different combinations of bead & globe sight materials, brass, ivory, white metal(tin).

Appears to be Ivory. Still intact after all these years...

Tough dating Stevens...but with no letter prefix...

My best guess is the first run of the Model 17.... Two digit SN, maybe 118 years ago.... Tough call.

Mine doesn't have the Beech folding front sight.
I gave some serious consideration of putting one of those in my Trapdoor.

I couldn't think of a better rifle to start a young feller out with that that little Stevens.

It will make a shooter out of him.

I looked at one of these today at a LGS. It had regular sights and probably not as good of shape as gizamo's but not bad for an old 22 rifle. I think they had it marked $175. Neat little rifles.
