I carry the gun in my front left jeans pocket. Carry an extra 5 rounds loose in my right pocket.

Why? Perhaps he's left handed.

The J-frame is a great pocket carry gun. I carry my 940-1 in my front right pocket (I'm right handed) and two extra moon clips in my back left pocket.

Which hand he is dominant with was not my point, I wouldn't carry in a front jeans pocket
because of the difficulty in presenting it quickly from that location and the bulge it would
make while carrying. I know because I have tried it.
I dunno, maybe he is a big guy with really loose, roomy pockets.
I hope he has a pocket holster.

I carry one of the little 5-shooters; 640, 642, sometimes a 940-1. But I wouldn't want it to get around that I don't routinely carry extra ammo;-)

I am left handed and do not use a holster. I live in Texas and can legally carry concealed or open, so do not worry about a bulge (actually the girls like it).
Agree that I won't win any fast draw contests. Try to have enough situational awareness that one or two seconds to get the gun on target will not be a problem. I can draw and aim in less than two seconds without rushing.

Nothing wrong with a J-frame. I’d love to find a stash of Nyclad .38 Spl- I haven’t seen that around in ages since they stopped making it.

FWIW, I carry that way every day, and I am not a “big guy” by any stretch. The trick is finding the right jeans with the right sort of pocket.

I am by no means saying it is the right choice for everyone, but pocket carry does have some distinct advantages. For example, there is something to be said for the ability to have a grip on your firearm with no one the wiser.

Ditto. A J frame in a pocket holster rides and conceals very well in my jean pocket. I’m also a southpaw so left pocket for me as well. A speed strip with 5 rides in the watch pocket on the right side. Casually walk along with a hand in the pocket and you are ‘harmless’ yet can produce a firearm Very quickly if need be.

Nothing wrong with that gun as an edc. My summer carry has been a 640 for almost a decade. I do use a Mika holster though.

I run a pure stock 442, no lock. Been carrying some sort of J frame for 52+ years. OWB DeSantis 001-S1 holster 95% of the time. I only pocket carry went wearing cargo pants riding a motorcycle. Getting off the bike I slip the 442 into the pocket. It's in a pocket holster on the bike and in the cargo pocket. A very low key maneuver. BTW, I've known two riders involved in accidents who had broken ribs while carrying in "gunpocket" riding jackets. The ribs were directly under the weapon. One was a Glock the other a Chirfs Special. The revolver guy was Medi- Vac'd.

Trying to lighten the load I've shaved .3oz. by changing from a hot load hardcast 148gr. WC to Hornady Critical Defense. Yes that sounds a little nuts but I'm also buying myself a 340 PD for my 76th. birthday. I'm old, gray and after three decades of carring a full size duty gun the hip gets sore. Lighter is better.

I pocket carry a 642 in a Galco horsehide holster. The bulge is not identifiable as a gun. Presentation from a seated position is awkward from front pocket of Carhartt jeans or cargo pants, not bad from the cargo pocket. Otherwise I find it as fast (and more important, smooth) as belt carry (no cover garment to negotiate) or a shoulder holster and worlds ahead of ankle carry (except when seated). Over the past 45 years I have used all these methods with guns from derringers to Commanders and 4" N frames (not all methods with all guns). Much more comfortable with a DA revolver for front pocket carry and still a baritone.
