My Old School EDC

Nice older J. I remember Federal originally offering both a 125gr +P Nyclad, and what I thought they called a Chief's Special standard pressure 125gr Nyclad. I exhausted my supply of those years ago, but I still have a box or two of the original 158gr +P Nyclad.

I also use strong side front pocket holster carry, except I slip a speedstrip of 5 rounds alongside the pocket holster in the same pocket.

Yes, drawing while seated is difficult, but I don't plan to get into any speed contests drawing and presenting from the pocket. Drawing in any of the other potential conditions is simple enough, and I've invested some years of practice doing so while working the range.

Yes, I always check the size and depth of pants pockets with an eye toward pocket-holster carry. Some offer more of a print than others. For those few pants that have front pockets that were either too short or too tight to accommodate a J? Well, that's why I picked up a couple of the DAO LCP's. ;)

Love my old 37. When the hound dog barks in the middle of the night, stick my hand in my pocket, everything’s alright.
Model 37, 2-inch SB with Pachmayrs. Federal .38 Special 125 gr Nyclad SWCHP. Gun shipped in 1982.
I carry the gun in my front left jeans pocket. Carry an extra 5 rounds loose in my right pocket.

I have pocket carried for years with no ill effects. And I have never lost a gunfight either ;)

Chief's special, bobbed, with tactical bandana.
340sc with El Paso saddlery rough-out pocket holster
58 bobbed & chopped, converted to 44 mag, loose in front pocket of Levi's

I have pocket carried a J-Frame since 2004. It’s always in my off hand pocket and I’ve practiced drawing and shooting from that pocket. I carry a second J-Frame in the appendix area. A gun is always accessible for at least one hand. I use speed strips for reloads. Once in a while the appendix gun is a high cap 9 but I like J-Frames best.IMG_0430.jpeg

Much the same here. A well worn model 38 in an Andrews pocket holster has been a near constant companion for 20 years.

I live in Florida. Casual wear, dress wear, formal wear ….. cargo shorts! Only thing different is the shoes.

Very nice. I love J frames. It's too bad that Federal doesn't make Nyclads anymore.

Thanks DARE for your mention of the venerable Federal Nyclad round. It's good to know I'm not the only old-timer that still carries this great performing ammunition. Anyone that started shooting after the 1980s probably has never heard of the Nyclad (as the inquiry about it being a Black Talon) but for those of you not familiar with this line of ammo, ballistic experts back in the day highly recommended the 125 grain standard pressure .38 special Nyclad bullet as the best round for a snub nose revolver due to it's excellent expansion and terminal performance. Federal brought the standard pressure .38 back into production, in the early 2000s I believe, but unfortunately this run was short lived. I know this thread is about .38 snubbies but I enjoy seeing the classic old Nyclad ammo get an honorable mention from time to time on this forum.

Somebody mention Nyclad?

My dad was a gun writer and a gun store owner. I worked for him in the gun store. The hand printed label is some prototype ammo that was sent to him as a writer. We chronographed loads, ran penetration and expansion tests, much fun.

I think I still have a half a box of Federal Nyclad 125 grain hollow points from the early 90s.

In terms of old school loads, Federal still makes the 158 grain lead SWCHP +p and Buffalo Bore offers some standard pressure LSWCHP and wad cutter loads. I got tired of dealing with anything less than than a 148 grain wadcutter no shooting to point of aim with factory J frame fixed sights.
