Gave it a clean up, and here are some pictures. Details... Pre War, Made in 1941, caliber .270 Winchester.

Nuttin' like a pre-war M70 . . . .
I have two . . .a 22 Hornet and a 30-06.
Notice the pre-war has a 20 lpi checkering pattern, while the post-war has 18 lpi.
Subtle change, but NICE!

You're gonna love that rifle.

I found one like that (except 30-06) which actually had the authentic WWII scope for the 03A4 installed. Air pencil serial number and unaltered.
Removed the scope and sold it on eBay for more than the whole package!!!
Then sold the Stith mount for another $150
Essentially got the rifle for free!
Shot it a few times then flipped it at the Tulsa Wanenmacher.

That's sweet. I'd have a hard time not upgrading that scope if were actually going to hunt with it, but I also understand the desire to leave it as-is.
I am on the fence about changing it. I researched other 3/4 tube scopes, reglass/rebuild options, crazy expensive. I really don't want to take the Stith mount off, as I really like the look and style. I have other Hunting rifles with Leupold glass if I am really serious to hunt. This one Is just a neat 84 year time capsule, that I wish I could hear the stories...

Congrat's on acquiring a nice rifle.
I bought a pre war model 70 in .270 from a forum member here several years ago. It turned out to be one of the most accurate rifles I own. It is not stock, it has a custom stock & after market barrel. The fellow sent me several boxes of his reloads & load data. I normally do not shoot other people's reloads, but I made an exception. They were so accurate out to 600 yds that I simply duplicated his loads.
Enjoy your "new" rifle.
If it was mine, I would leave it as it is, since you have other rifles to hunt with.
