I picked this one up from Plain Ol Dave today. It is a bit rough around the edges but it is in 32 Winchester (32-20). There is a thread about it Dave was advised by Mr. Jinks to letter it when he got the ship year. The serial number is 2709. He has never lettered it. I will be sending to get the letter soon.

And the cool stuff you learn from those letters is worth every penny in my mind.

Most likely shipped to Teddy Roosevelt....

Mr Jinks advised to letter

Had Roy advise me to get a letter when I asked for a ship date on a Model 39 No dash.
Turned out although the serial number placed it late 50's early 60's it shipped to the US Government, a Fort if I remember correctly, in 1968.
Sorry if I am hijacking the thread here but I thought I would mention how well it turned out for me.

91

Here's a picture of the serial number of my 1899 32 Winchester - 91. Butt, barrel and cylinder. Sadly, the condition of the revolver is poor.
9.12 stamp likely the date for the star.
Nope - the ejector rod knob is just a screw.
I've never thought it was worth a letter.

When I requested the shipping date on my Model 1006 Mr. Jinks added the comment "interesting gun" to his response. Well, I couldn't just let that go so lettered it. It was shipped directly to the Sheriff of Buchanan County, VA.

A bit of an update Pain Ole Dave told me he had tried to get the timing issue resolved at his gunsmith. I decided to take a crack at it. I was thinking welding up the hand, and reshaping it when I took it out it was evident too much had already been done. I found one at Gunparts that was the correct one. I am happy to report timing issue has been corrected.

Roy recommended I get a letter as well on this seemingly innocent Model 29 bought off GB. When I did that, it turned out to be one of the original QSPR-Quiet Special Purpose Revolvers-Tunnel Gun frames shipped to AAI who produced the highly classified revolver for the soldiers who served as tunnel rats in the Viet Nam war. Needless to say if Roy Jinks recommends you letter a gun, I'd hop to it.:)

I got my letter today not as exciting as I had hoped. I think Plain Ole Dave probably misread the serial number when he got the ship date. I knew this was a possibility when I bought it. Here is the info portion of the letter.
