A friend showed me a nickeled 19-1 and a nickeled pre 15 that was police marked on the backstrap. Both were excellent condition but without original grips. He priced both for $900 each which seemed too high to me with no boxes and original grips missing. Any help for actual value for these? I know the market has been crazy, but I'm out of touch on the value of these.

EDIT: Both have 4" barrels.

We need pictures to even hazard a guess. If in 95% condition or better, I'd give $900 for a nickel M19-1 with a set of period correct stocks, but without factory stocks I'd have to think about it. Do these revolvers have 4" or 6" barrels?

Okay, I thought about it. yes, I'd give $900 for the M19-1 in nickel, as long as the finish is intact and the gun mechanically sound, without the factory grips.

In excellent condition with non-matching grips: the pre model 15... maybe, the 19-1...yes. If its both or none...yes.

I have a beautiful pair of K frame diamond targets that would look great on the 19-1. If you're not interested in it, PM me.

A 19-1 in original condition in 98% or so would be a steal at $900. A re-finished one is probably worth $900. In year's of looking for one I've seen just two for sale which, as I remember was three or so years ago. One was decent, not perfect, with an $1800 price tag and the other was terrible, maybe 60% and the seller still wanted $1300. I don't think there are many nickel 19-1s so I'd be checking carefully for a re-finish. Good luck.

4" I forgot to mention that. By excellent I meant definitely better than 95% on both.

The thoughts about it being refinished hit me as well. I didn't see an "N" on the cylinder or under the extractor, but I didn't ask to pop the grips off and take a look for a marking there.

There would be a star on the breech face of the cylinder, too.

19-1's are not commonly encountered and bring a premium in high condition.
You can get a set of proper diamond target stocks for about $250,
A nickel 19-1 should have a blued front site ramp. Serial would likely be around k-465000 - k466000 and likely shipped in 1962

Before considering the M19 make sure you carefully check the forcing cone and top strap areas for possible cracks and erosion as too many lighter weight magnums can have I'll affects on them.

If you're going for accuracy, I'd go with the M15 (Combat Masterpeice) as I find them slightly more accurate than a similar M19. I've got both models and shoot the M15 way more.

I'd say try to haggle a little. Buy if u want them or have been looking for them. I wouldn't buy simple because I thought it was a great deal.

Not necessarily
I own a factory refinished K 22 done in the 70s with no star or rework marks of any kind. Its perfectly done and you would not know short of the trademark stamp being a bit deeper.

Unmarked refinishes are out there.
