19-2 Round butt grips

19-2

I have an early model snubby 19-2 and have been told that the revolver may or may not have been issued with diamond grips. Since it was made during a transition period between diamond and newer non-diamond grips that the factory may have used the diamond grips until they ran out of stock and then switched to the newer design once the diamonds had run out. I was never given a definitive answer as to how many or what serial numbers may have had the older diamond grips. Hope this helps a little.

Directives to delete the diamond around the escutcheon and nut on all stocks except the target type were issued on October 11, 1965 and January 11, 1966. It would have taken some time to use up inventory of diamond stocks, but the change to the "modern" stock without the diamond was probably completed by mid-1966.

Thanks guys so just because they are not there does not mean they are not original. Good to know.

When it comes to S&W and their changes there are no guarantees.

My 19-2 marked revolver has all of the 19-3 changes on it. It was not shipped until 1968.

As changes move through the factory anything can, and does, happen. They are not going to waste parts just because a "dash number" has increased.

I believe the right hand stock panel should have the serial number of the revolver stamped on it. You should check it.
