19-3 pinned front sight

I think they pinned them pretty much forever. Some are polished so smooth you can't see it. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

The one that's on the way to you is out of pocket right now so I can't look at it.:D

Thanks, it’s pinned I believe. I can barely see them on the right side pic I think. I could be wrong, just thought it was done away with on later 3s -4. As far as my 75ish -3 nickel, can’t see a thing. Thanks Tom, your mailman should be there soon.

The nickel plating is thick enough to cover any remnants of the pin. The older guns without a barrel rib had the sight forged in the barrel. Some had a small base forged as part of the barrel with a small blade pinned to it, like the 22/32 Beakhart. Someone that can explain and clarify/correct might come along.

Got the check!!

At some point (not sure when or model variation), I think the ramp base was forged with the barrel and the sight blade pinned to the ramp base with a single pin that was polished flush to the side of the base. I know this was done on Model 29-2s by the late 1960s for the 6 1/2-inch barrel and by the early 1970s for the other barrel lengths.

Hello all, when did Smith stop pinning the front sights on the 19-3. Thanks
It depends on what barrel length you're talking about.

The 2.5" version did not have pinned sights, they were always integral.

On the 4" length, early -3's that started with a "K" had front sights that the base was pinned to the rib with two pins. By the 2K's (1K's are 2.5") the sight base was forged with the barrel and rib and the sight ramp was pinned to the base with one pin.
In late 1975, in the mid-7K's, the sight ramp, base, etc. became integral.

On the 6" version the front sight ramp was pinned to the base with one pin into 1979 and the ##K's.
