There were some pretty dedicated advocates of round butting the 4" 19s/66s back in the day. I recall some number of articles about that. There is something that makes that format that looks someone who was serious about taking care of business had that revolver. In a good holster, a 4" RB is as easy to conceal as a 2.5, so you end up with a cop who could own and carry only one gun for almost all needs. I intend to do that conversion on my 66 some day.

It was in fact a custom. I found out that the guy I got it from had it made. the groves in the back strap were machined in by a gunsmith.
