Just acquired a 19-3 with a PD marking on it. Any idea which department it might be? Serial number places it in 1976. Came with rubber Hogue grip, I put the Altamonts on it.

No idea, I suppose it could be initials too.

Congrats on the 19-3. It doesn't look like any Police Department markings I have seen. I suspect a former owners initials. More jewelry type engraving. Generally PD markings are on the other side below the cylinder window and factory markings are usually stamped. Older guns were sometimes marked on the backstrap. But never say never …..

I agree, that's likely too fancy to be law enforcement or security markings, it's most likely someone's initials. At least they were not "engraved" with an electric pencil engraver.
