I'm not sure if I have this posted in the proper date category (pre- vs. post-1980) but wanted to share anyway...a 19-4 billed as "new in box" that I picked up at a local gun show today!

Complete with original box, papers, and tools, this 19 indeed shows only minimal handling marks and only the faintest start of a cylinder turn-line. If not truly unfired, it appears to have not been fired much.

While I didn't purchase this necessarily for its potential collector-value, one point of discussion was the target stocks. With the 19-5 coming out in, I believe, 1982, I didn't think the stocks with the speedloader cutouts were available until sometime shortly thereafter. Perhaps someone here on the Forum can shed some light for me on that.

That's a really nice find. A shooting buddy of mine I recently wanted to sell his 4" Model 629-4 and 4" 19-2 or -3 and our son bought the pair for $1,000. The 19 is pinned and recessed and has a target hammer, target trigger and the red ramp/white outline sight package. Both guns were shot but in good condition and came with their boxes, paperwork and tools. I figured the Model 19 to be worth no less than $600, so I think our son got a great deal!

My first S&W was a Model 19-2 with the "three Ts" and it had "football" target stocks, so I think your gun is wearing its correct stocks. I have all stainless S&W revolvers now as it is easier to get then looking new again after shooting without wearing bluing thin, especially on cylinder faces, but my favorite centerfires are my three Model 66s.

If that gun was mine, I would make it a safe queen and buy another in less pristine condition for a shooter.

The speedloader cut out stocks came out about 1980 so they should be correct.

Does the box have another, typed label on the other end?

Yes, as attached...any translations on this? And thank you for the info on the stocks you and others have provided, also. I pulled the stocks to check for a date stamped inside them as I've seen on other sets, but there was none.

The 4in 19 is one of my grail revolvers. Two others are the 3in and snubbie versions. NICE!

Yes.

0194 = Model 19-4
02 - Bright Blue
40 = 4" barrel
3 = Square butt
1 = standard features for the model; in this case .265" trigger, .375" semi-target hammer, Baughman ramp front sight, plain rear sight blade, and target stocks.

That is very cool, I've never seen these broken-down this way - thank you!

Nice! I've owned a few over the years. Sadly they've all gotten away.
Hopefully I'll run into one as nice as yours one day. Also would like to find another 681. That went for a good cause.
