19-7 K-comp and 696-1 questions

Just picked up both of these. Was surprised to see both of them online on the same site. Needless to say, they were both guns I've looked for forever and I probably took a hit on both, but I wanted them

The 19-7 came in a factory case, but I don't believe the grips are original. This was 1300, but i've been looking for one of these forever. Any idea on production numbers?

The second is a 696-1. It has the stamped lettering the barrel, as opposed the laser engraved barrels. Never owned a 44 special. Any pointers? good loads? This one set me back 900.

Any pointers, insight, ideas, are appreciated. I'm consolidating firearms and getting rid of things I don't like, and picking up ones I do, and I always end up back at smith revolvers.

I don't know a lot about the 19-7 Comp ('cept I want one) but the $900 you paid for the 696-1 was pretty much spot on. They are fantastic guns and would be arguably one of the best concealed carry guns S&W ever made. The only advice I'd pass along would be to not abuse the gun with powerhouse loads. If you look at the forcing cone it's scary thin and probably wouldn't appreciate a steady diet of hot rounds. I took mine to the range today & was shooting as good in d.a as I was s.a. at 12 yards.

You did just fine on your PC 19-7 K comp ! In fact I am very surprised you found one near that price. Well done and enjoy it. (They came with Uncle Mike grips and while I have "lettered" one of my PC 19-7's, Roy did not indicate how many were produced.)

On the 696-1 you might try some 200 grain ammo. Really neat guns that were under appreciated when they first came out...Have Fun

Love my 696, and the 200 gr8 bullet is a good suggestion. I'm still trying to find the right load, but 6 gr. of 2400 is where I am now and it's very comfortable to shoot. They are a bit heavy for ETC, but so is the 4516 I carry now. Congratulations on both! Where's the pictures?

Sounds like you did pretty good on both guns. The k comp sure is a joy to shoot.

Congrats on landing both desirable and scarce revolvers. Just about any pre-lock PC revolver, K frame or larger, that can be bought for under $1500 these days is a bargain.

Here are links since everything is official now. I'm glad I took a break and left for a few, because they posted a 686-5 mountain gun for 950 that I probably wouldn't have been able to say no to. I don't know who is clearing out their collection through these guys.

Im just surprised you got those prices at Collectors. They can be proud of their stuff sometimes. I have the 19-7 K comp and its a gorgeous gun. Ive had one for about 7 or 8 years not. They are fun to shoot. I have a no dash 696 Lew Horton that is factory magnaported. Also a blast to shoot, Enjoy both of them!

My load for a 696ND is 6.5g W231 under a 250g SWC. Try it, you might just like it - I do.

Of course, that's the same load I shoot in my 624's and 24-3.

As to the 19-7, I held and dry fired a 19-6 PC and vowed to own one some day.
