When I saw the post from "glenncal1" about his "kaboom" at the range I had to post my pics of my 1905 with a similar event. The ammo was 158 gr SJFP Monarch from Academy. My son Mike was instructing a new shooter and they were alternating between the 1905 and his Star PD 45 ACP loaded with Blazer FMJ. They had already fired one box of the 38 ammo and finished the 45 ammo and Mike wanted to shoot more of the 38 Spec. He loaded the 1905 for the new shooter and watched down range. When no holes appeared he wasn't alarmed (new shooter not a good shot), and the new guy commented after the first shot that the recoil was easier than the 45. After six rounds Mike took the pistol and opened the cylinder and all the cases came out easily. He loaded six more to shoot for himself. After the first round he happened to notice the barrel looked crooked and pulled the gun down and unloaded it. When he actually saw the split he nearly had to change his drawers.

It seems to me that someone would have noticed the lack of a report when the bullet lodged in the barrel? Welcome to the forum, Lucky!

That's what happens when you let someone else shoot your gun with cheep ammo. :(

Where can I get some of that ammo? Seriously, glad no one was hurt, and welcome to the forum.

I'd be pissed. No powder in the case probably, a real problem in a wheel gun. Why I'm hesitant to allow new shooter to fire reloads in a revolver. If it don't go bang, don't try again.

can this one be re-barreled ? i like how that old pistol took the beating of the second round up behind the lodged one and didn't completely explode, says a bit about the steel in that one.

Glad that everyone is OK. How many rounds are in that split barrel? I believe I can see at least 4 in the picture.

I would return to Academy with pistol and ammo and have them contact their supplier and see if they will compensate you. Second reason is I'm sure the ammo manufacture would like to know they have a quality control problem and have a recall of that batch of ammo before more pistol are damaged.

I had a squib that bulged the barrel of my Kahr Arms 1927 Tommy Gun......it was a bad batch of CCI Blazer .45.

Maybe if you can track down a nice take-off barrel, S&W could rebarrel it for you for a small charge.

What year is that M&P? It looks like a pre-war, barrels shouldn't be all that hard to find. Worst case scenario you can put a Victory or a Model 10 barrel on it, you'll just have to also track down a right hand thread later M&P extractor rod.

I rebarreled this Victory in my garage with a vise and two blocks of wood......I got it cheap because someone sloppily twisted on a 2" barrel from Colt Detective Special, so I twisted on a 5" barrel I got on GunBroke. By sheer luck I didn't have to fit the forcing cone, and it shoots to POA. I guess I'm luckier than I am smart sometimes.......
