When I saw the post from "glenncal1" about his "kaboom" at the range I had to post my pics of my 1905 with a similar event. The ammo was 158 gr SJFP Monarch from Academy. My son Mike was instructing a new shooter and they were alternating between the 1905 and his Star PD 45 ACP loaded with Blazer FMJ. They had already fired one box of the 38 ammo and finished the 45 ammo and Mike wanted to shoot more of the 38 Spec. He loaded the 1905 for the new shooter and watched down range. When no holes appeared he wasn't alarmed (new shooter not a good shot), and the new guy commented after the first shot that the recoil was easier than the 45. After six rounds Mike took the pistol and opened the cylinder and all the cases came out easily. He loaded six more to shoot for himself. After the first round he happened to notice the barrel looked crooked and pulled the gun down and unloaded it. When he actually saw the split he nearly had to change his drawers.
